Default Ticking sound, bad rocker or lifter advice...

So I turned on my car yesterday and the sewing machine turned into a tick with a slight exhaust leak sound. Took it over to my tuner and they told me it was either a rocker or lifter, but most likely the rocker.

I read up on how to do it and got some conflicting install information. So my questions are as followed.

1.) Do I need to change all the rockers or can I just buy 1 or 2 LS7 replacements?

2.) Worth it to throw pushrods in there since they will be out anyways.

3.) TDC absolutely necessary when bolting them down to 22?

4.) If I need to change all the rockers what should I throw in my set up is in my signature, LS1 A&A Supercharger.

Thanks everyone.

You could probably use your existing rockers and doing the trunion upgrade. Check it out on you tube.

Thanks for the vid! I actually ordered 2 rockers and a valve cover gasket on Amazon Prime. I am going to just do this for now, since I have a time crunch on doing this.

I looked at a few things online but any special tools ya'll can think of I will need?

Sockets, snap ring pliers and a vice or a press. I did my own after watching the video. It's not difficult. You pick up speed after you do a couple.

Im amazed that you have a FORCED INDUCTION engine and are reluctant to bullet proof the valve train. Please tell us that you have at least changed the OEM springs!

My strongest recommendation if you have not accomplished them:

TRUNION UPGRADE! Simple and cost effective!
Push rod up grade. Install some heavy wall chrome molly push rods.
Replacement higher seat pressure springs
Valve Guide seal replacement.

If you break a spring and drop a valve, you will kick your self in the butt cleaning up the aftermath.

1. Seeing as ls7 are 1.8 ratio, you'll need to change all.

2. Yes

3. No

4. I use yella terra in daily driven car.

Trunion upgrades have been coming apart as well. So up to you

Doing some light reading, the ls7 exhaust rocker 1.8 ratio doesn't fit well on the valve tip. It isn't centering on the valve tip.
Rather it's sitting lower to one side of the valve.

Now the l92/l76/ls3 Exhaust rocker p/n 10214664 – no offset,*would be the correct one to use.

I bought some LS1 rockers and a gasket for the valve cover.

Anyway to determine lifter vs rocker soundwise?

I am hoping its not the lifter or else I'll have to have our second car shipped from CA

Take the valve covers off and look for any rockers with missing bearings or twisted out of place. If none can been seen, plug the coils in and start it . Then look and listen. No odd rocker movement then most likely a lifter.

I did whatever A&A recommended. They built the car. I have springs and retainers. To be quite honest, the car hasn't seen boost in months, I hardly take it over 2500RPM. Like I said I will do the trunion upgrade at a later date. I am actually going through a cancer scare right now and am having surgery on my neck on the 30th. I don't really have the time to be tearing the car apart. I just need it running.
