Default C5 Hatch will not close

The right side latch is stuck in the closed position preventing the hatch to close. Any ideas how to remedy? Fist post on the forum but have used the site many times to fix several issues. Any help would be appreciated.

Have you tried hitting the hatch release again to see if it opens? Or is it just stuck?

There's a small emergency cable at every latch (check behind the interior panel)

Once I took off the back panel, I could see the problem. There is a plastic coating around the latch. The coating was worn and preventing the latch from opening. I removed most of the coating with pliers, lubricated both latches and the hatchback now opens and closes with ease. Thanks for the help.
