bit confused. racing seat and airbag

I took the power seats out of my 02 and was under the impression the airbags still worked. Does removing the seat from that harness cancel out the airbag working?

I took mine out and no codes and I can turn the key in the glove box and see the light switch back and forth. I haven't heard anyone else having this issue
