HVAC actuator calibration?
Hey guys,
I pulled out the driver side HVAC actuator from my 99 yesterday and confirmed my suspicions. The main gear is cracked. I'm going to epoxy it, but need to know the best way to recalibrate it. I've read where some do the trial and error approach by moving the blue potentiometer gear a tooth at a time until the codes go away. Is there a way to measure the resistance at the potentiometer to get it close, so the trial and error goes faster? What if I decide to replace the actuator? I read that the 2001 and up versions have built in stops.
Thanks,
Sam

The actuator actually calibrates its self when it cycles through it operating span. What you are talking about is re-centering of adjusting the gear teeth count. To do it correctly, you really need a GM Tech 2 to observe the counts and pot resistance from full CCW to CW.
I have an old actuator that has never been disassembled and I will open it to see if there is a zero position alignment mark for the gears..

I had similar troubles a few years back and did a thread that's got some decent detail pics and explanation on the actuators of both flavors. You'll be able to see how to center them up right from the get-go.
