Default Fuel gauge issue on 99

My fuel gauge just started acting up. When I get in and immediately start the car my fuel gauge goes to E and very slowly goes back up to the correct amount of fuel left on the gauge and the amount of miles left before empty. After noticing this I then turned the key off then back to on and let the gauges go through their dance and the fuel gauge reads correct. Can anyone tell me whats going on?

Thanks, it's at about 1/2 tank now, so I'll try the techron plus.

Had the same issue with my 6 speed vert, techron solved the problem within 1 tank of fuel. Has never been an issue with my 04 Z06, but than again I have used Techron since day 1.

I replaced mine on a 01 about a year and half ago; It's been working ever since.

Techron worked for me as well. If I use any other fuel then Shell my gauge still acts up.
