Default Magna-steer for newbies

I read another post that discussed Magna-Steer - which exposed my lack of knowledge on how this system works. A search turned up this explanation which I thought was pretty good and wanted to share (scroll down to section on "GM MAGNASTEER")

Interesting read: Question for the older year owners that have EBCM or Steering Wheel Sensor failure; How has it affected your magnasteer?

Failed ebcm does not mean the magnasteer will not work. Mine still worked with the failed ebcm. Had a smog check that when on the rollers it threw the codes. Magnasteer did not work then. Definitely noticed it not working. Steering was harder while stopped and slow driving. Cleared codes and it worked again. Notice able difference.
