Default Lo-Buck Shocks...

My old '99 coupe needs a new set... I know, I know, get used take-offs. But they can be hard to find and yada yada.

Lookin' at maybe new Gabriel Ultra's.. $44.99 each locally at Autozone.

Are they the world's worst..??? (Limited Lifetime Warranty)

My car's got the 200k+ orig's on it now, so anything's gonna be better.

I don't really need a stiff "performance" shock, my car is a stock base A4 model and I like the smooth-type ride just fine.

For those that wonder why are my shocks so ancient.. Bought this car as a beater off a used car lot..

I've been concentrating on restoring the mechanicals for almost a year. The car was somewhat neglected obviously.

But now she's running like new, and it's time to get my suspension up to snuff..for you guys that know me I'm restoring this old 'vette on a shoestring budget.

$$$ constraints make those Gabriels sound attractive.

Do you know what suspension you have? There is a list on the glove box that is the RPO codes...it will give you the suspension that came on your car.. F45 FE1

I like the sound of that..I don't know how the specs compare but I know AC delco should be good factory type stuff, and not much more scoots than the gabes.

You can get brand new C6 FE1 AC Delco shocks for $220. Absolutely worth the extra money over Gabriels.

Front:
Amazon.com: ACDelco 560-612 GM Original Equipment Front Shock Absorber: Automotive Amazon.com: ACDelco 560-612 GM Original Equipment Front Shock Absorber: Automotive

Rear:
Amazon.com: ACDelco 560-613 GM Original Equipment Rear Shock Absorber: Automotive Amazon.com: ACDelco 560-613 GM Original Equipment Rear Shock Absorber: Automotive

I put C6Z06 shocks on my car and they're phenomenal for the price. Granted, you'd like a softer ride, so these FE1 (base) shocks would do the trick.

Funny thing I saw a complete set of lo-mile C5 takeoffs a few mos back on the local Vegas Craigslist..$50.

My car wasn't running at the time, I was saving up for motor work and I let them slip away.

i sold my z06 take offs for 75 shipped.

if you want to be cheap take offs average 50 bucks a set

or those new ones at amazon. you might even look up the c5 part numbers and get the correct shock if they are similar priced. the c6 has slightly different spring rates

'Bum I don't wanna be cheap..plain fact is I'm just living on a small income. I don't really want used shocks unless they have super low miles. But $50-75 a set I think I could swing.

I still owe $300 to my mech for recent repairs and luckily the car lot suspended a few pmts for me 'til June. We'll see what pops up shock-wise.

Good thing It's the first of the mo and once the bills are paid and I get the mech a hundred or 2.. I'll know where I stand.

mileage really doesn't matter that much. the environment they are in and age are the two biggies. most people selling car parts are dishonest. 100k mile shocks are 20k. you have no way of knowing. why so many people like that are on car forums...i do not know.

i'd put off shocks until you get those other priorities square myself. it's rough living on little

I'm not going to keep doing this... but, if you will watch the C6 parts for sale, or better yet post that you
WTB a set of C6 shocks... you might pick a whole set for less than $100 ........................................ .

Shoot me a PM if interested.

'73 I appreciate your input very much. What do you guys think? 32K don't sound like too many mi, but I'm no expert (opinions appreciated)..

A full used set for just shipping sounds like a killer deal...

But I just want to make sure I get the right shocks. I'll be paying for installation etc, so I want to do the right thing. I don't want to replace these again. If I need a better shock like Delco new ones I'll have hold off a bit and get the best I can.

Haven't sent a PM yet, still waiting a couple of days. Need to think this through..

Age/climate I hadn't considered, fresh might be better.
