painting uncoated lead wheel weights for N73 magnesium wheels
Any suggestions of how or what not to do when painting uncoated lead wheel weights for N73 magnesium wheels?
I have primer, base coat, clear coat spray touch paint in N73 Bronze, for the wheels. Will Prepsol, then prime, base coat then clear last?
If I want something, I always feel other may be looking for it also. This has become a challenge to see how well it will work.

Why do you want to pound weights onto your wheels? Why not use stick on weights on the inside. If you can't get a good balance then you have bigger issues. I would never put normal wheel weights on nice wheels. I have magnesium wheels on my Pantera and I used the stick on weights on the inside with no issues and I also race it.
Even if you coat them you will still surely have metal to metal contact where the weight grips.
PS: A good tire shop will locate where they go, place them, and then spin the tire to confirm a good balance. I have my own balancer and do that regardless of where the weights go or what type are being used.

I am using stick on wheel weights. The size and style i am using do not come coated. On the N73 magnesium wheels, the caliper does not allow for weights in that location. They will have to be on the front face on a narrow surface. The rears are 18" and weights will clear the caliper.

Is there a reason you are going to put those ugly looking weights on the painted outside of your wheels? If you were going to run in the Silver State Road Race Unlimited Class I would agree, except I would not be using those wheels.

I had stick-on weights on my mags. They were mounted well inboard on the barrels with no problems at all. They make really thin weights now, so you could even probably put them near the outside and still clear the calipers. I painted my barrels satin black, so the weights were easily blacked out with a couple shots of plasti-dip.

I also had the magnesium wheels with stick on wheel weights. They can be put on in a location a little further back in the barrel of the wheel that misses the caliper. But mine were done with the weights right at the caliper and still cleared. They were really close, but cleared. I ran them for quite a while with no problems. I would not put them on the front side since they are so ugly there.
Good luck.
Good luck.

Thanks for the update,
Thanks for the input, I found a few older colored lead weights. I plan to reuse them using 3m red attachment tape, if they have to go on the face of the fronts wheels. I know they are ugly, but I want the best balance that can be achieved.

you can still easily get within 1/4 ounce running the weights inboard.
ridiculous putting those on the lip
where do you old people come up with these ideas sometimes?

As I have said before, no one will ever go broke underestimating the taste of the typical Corvette owner.

I just have been a old car fan since I can remember. I appreciate how each owner makes the car his own, from bone stock to whatever a owner one can imagine.
