When I squeeze the mirror housing the courtesy lights will come on , they do not work with the buttons . Is there a way to disassemble the mirror without removing it ? I have not had any luck getting it to release from the windshield and don't want to risk breaking the glass .

I used a small plastic pry bar to release the retaining clip. The mirror came off fairly easy.
