Default Corsa Xtreme...not very extreme sounding?

Hi Folks,
I just had a corsa xtreme exhaust put on my 2001, and well....i was expecting it to be a bit louder. I know corsa is known for not having drone, but this only really makes noise if im on the throttle. I was expecting it to have a nice idle at least.
Do these systems get louder overtime or did I just make a mistake and buy the wrong exhaust?

Exhausts can get a tiny bit louder after a while, but I'm thinking that would be barely noticeable at idle. Sorry, but I think you're not going to notice much change...

What's done to your car? No exhaust really sounds loud with catalytic converters installed.

Ya, its stock other than the xtreme axleback. I live in CA, so I cant get long tubes or mess with the cats.

Exactly... It's the cats. I have 1 7/8 Pfadts with an ORX and mines plenty for me.

As for sounding different over time, you'll never get that with Corsa since they use NO packing, but tuned welded baffles in the motor. Start up 1 will sound the same as start up 1000.

Do a muffler bypass with or without cutouts.

My Corsa Tigershark was very quiet with the shorties and the stock 4 cat and an x pipe.

Now with longtubes and Random Tech cats it sounds good all around.

I put in these 3" Pep Boys cutouts as part of a bypass and it makes it

10 db louder when doing a blast

It's not even all that drony while cruising with the bypass open.

the xtremes are pretty much a muffler bypass... it is probably the best flowing exhaust for the c5 other than running straight pipes which would be unbearable in some situations... it's just not super aggressive because your car is stock, if you heard mine you would probably feel differently

YA, unfortunately these wouldnt benefit much from a bypass since they pretty much already do that...

1500 miles with catless longtubes and straight pipes last week-100% bearable in all situations. The extremes are even tamer than that though, which is crazy considering the design.

If you still have the stock h pipe with 4 cats that is what's keeping it tamed. I had an '01 with my stock h pipe and slp loudmouth that wasn't overly loud either.

Yea just got my catback Corsa Extreme and it's not enough for sure. Disappointed so far but goin do some more exhaust work. Good to know it wakes up if cats are pulled. Tried to get my shop to do it and they didn't have the time. Kinda squeezed the catback in

I run XS-Power long tubes, X pipe and hi-flo cats into a stock Z Ti exhaust. Its mellow and a pleasure on long drives. I am not looking for a constant loud rumble at idle or extreme loudness at WOT. However, on occasion I do like to wake up the surroundings, so in went the cut outs specifically for those occasions. It is very noticeable when open and no one mistakes it for other than open pipes. Then close them up and cruise home in comfort or even listen to the stereo or have a conversation without yelling. Just my 2 cents.

Default bit unusual...

Jeeze, never heard this complaint before. My z06 with only a Corsa Extreme is plenty loud at idle and under load. Cops can hear it throughout the entire valley under WOT. Matter of fact, I'm told it's one of the loudest cars on the track when passing people. I've taken to wearing ear plugs on track because when passing concrete barriers it makes my right ear rattle. Could you have partially plugged cats or something else upstream impeding flow? BTW--I think it got a tic louder over time, but makes no sense why...

Possibly a good change for you if you want a LOUDER exhaust would the SLP Loud Mouth catback.

The OP has a base model; your higher compression, bigger cam Z will be louder, all other things being equal.
