Default Transmission Problems...

so i thought i would ask here, the C6 section isnt getting much of good answers... buddy has a C6Z 2006 (T56) and is not having issues shifting and wont go into reverse (shifter goes to reverse but still is in a forward moving gear)

any thoughts would be apprecieated:

The very FIRST place that I would look is the shifter box its self.

Make sure that the shifter is:

1. Properly attached to the torque tube and the rubber bushings that isolate it from the TT are not worn out.
2. The shifter plate is properly attached to the lower shift box.

When you shift to reverse, you put extra strain on the BOX to get to the reverse gate. If the BOX is FLEXING instead of the lever transmitting the force to the shift collor inside the box, its never going to align the shift rod that goes back to the trans to get it into the reverse gear.

The shifter box and the shift handle would be my very FIRST to investigate. Watch the box when you force it over to the reverse gate. If it flexes or the coupler behind the box that connects the trans shift rod to the box is loose. it will do the same thing:

Pulled it out, defiantly in the transmission. Getting quotes for rebuild but also considering a good used trans. For the life of me i cannot remember the vender on here that sells salvage/recycled corvette parts... anyone help me out and remind me of their name... I see them on here quite often but for the life of me cant remember who..

Thanks,
Shane

My fork pads were mauled for reverse and never worked well. When my trans actually broke i replaced everything with billet keys and brass/bronze(whatever they are) fork pads.

Shifts exactly how a sports car should now.

If you are just going to fix reverse its actually pretty easy assuming its the pads, which it generally is. Buy new plastic fork pads. Flip the syncro assembley. As long as the gear isn't to trashed its good to go. And its all in the tail housing so you don't actually have to open the tranny.
