Default Removing catalytic converters - what are my options?

I'd like to remove my cats as I'm sure they are plugged due to running rich (supercharger). What are my options without needing to replace the stock exhaust manifolds? Do they sell an xpipe that bolts up to the stock exhaust? Or am I basically limited to having a muffler shop cut our my cats?

you can take them off and if you're able to get a pry bar, long screwdriver, or some sort of tool down into them you can break the catalyst up... a rubber mallet will also help knock the catalyst out as you break it loose... I think it would be better to upgrade to longtubes and a catless exhaust rather than messing with the stock stuff

It looks like it would be easier to have them cut out I think if I stayed with the stock h-pipe. I was hoping that someone would sell a cat-less x pipe for stock exhaust manifolds (I actually have shorty headers). But I haven't found anything yet.

I think Borla sells one? It's gonna stink on decel, but won't give you that nasty rotten egg reek every time you give the skinny pedal some lovin. I think if I'd ever crack open the tune and kill the DFCO delay I could eliminate said decel stink, but I have yet to do so. I did a catless long tube setup and it was idle up gains with a louder wail WOT and same-ish sound at cruise. IMO there's no going back.

You will find that most muffler shops won't cut off working cats. The feds can fine a shop in the 5-figure $$ range if they get caught.

What you can do is to remove the cats yourself and then trailer the car to a muffler shop and have them weld in straight pipe or install an X-pipe, connect headers, or whatever. You will need to remove the license plates and simply tell them the car is going to be used for "off-road use only".

Make sure that you get any O2 sensors re-installed. Shops can weld in a bung easily.

The only catalytic converter delete pipe I've found so far is:

http://californiasupercoupes.com/ind...roducts_id=212

But that looks to be missing several feet of pipe to make it work.

Don't forget----When removing your cats----You must turn OFF all the cat reporting in your tune and delete all the rear 02 codes---Otherwise you'll keep getting tons of codes
Even at some point with certain 02 codes the engine will go into "reduced power mode"
where it will only let you drive like 35 MPH---

Where are you located?

I have a set of pipes that I made (and no longer use) that replace the whole center section of the exhaust. They bolt to the stock exhaust manifolds and bolt to the stock mufflers.

You can get the rear O2's turned off in the tune or install a set of O2 sims (I built my own sims with a 555 timer).

The rear 02's have NOTHING to do with the running of your engine- They are simply there to report the "condition" of your cats------If your cats aren't there----The ECM will assume there is a failure of some kind and your dash will light up like a Christmas tree
Tuning can fix this----

There may be some kind of a difference between a car with Calif emission controls and one without--- A car with Calif emissions when removing the cats will result in at least 10 codes----

Although they are located in Florida, apparently they only do business outside of the US. That's what you get when you outsource IT. I wonder if they are wondering why business is slow.

Rx7Rob,,

Great idea re the NE555 Timer !! What F and D cycle did you end up with utilizing ??

Doubt many understand this,,,

Both my C5's the Cats are welded in place.

I have two other cars with LS motors without Cats, They DO NOT STINK, and the exhaust burns CLEAN.

Apparently they need to update their website with current information. Maybe a phone call Tuesday. I ordered one exactly like it from another company in the early days of LS tuning, it worked great.

Magniflow makes universal X-Pipes for a lower cost-- This set up looks very basic and un refined----as it's welded poorly---so you have to assume the opening between the 2 sides is minimal---These cars already have a stock X-pipe but the opening is small the magniflow x -pipe to me has the greatest opening to scavenge between the 2 sides
and it's a short compact unit

My goal is to delete the cats, on a budget. I have shorty headers right now and I don't want to pony up the big $ for long tubes and a proper x pipe. The piece offered by this company will allow me to delete my cats with nothing more than a hacksaw and muffler clamps. This is just a short term solution, and it will cost me < $200.

I have been trying to figure out a way to do this also, I am not sure why you could not cut them off and have a length of pipe swelled and notched on both ends to clamp back on? I am no professional but the portions of the exhaust is clamped together already. I think it would cost about 15 dollars in pipe and maybe clamps would be high.
