wear on high mileage valve guides. powdered metal guide source?
Taking my heads in to get inspected today. If they warrant a valve guide replacement, where can I get the OEM powdered metal valve guides? Really don't want to go with bronze. I want something that will last and not require me to set the wipe pattern on the rockers. Would I be better off with getting a used set of low mileage 853 heads? I don't want to upgrade.
they have 135k miles on them. anyone have experience with how much wear the guides get with high mileage? Hoping I can just get the heads checked and cleaned and move on.
99 ls1 stock cam and valvetrain
Thanks!

Think I would trade off cost of replacement (used low mileage) to the cost of machining. Also, unless the shop does a lot of LS type heads, it seems a lot of local shops unfamiliar with the LS heads set the valves at different heights or all deeper and you end up with valve train geometry issues hence the potential for trade-off of used set of heads.

Thanks for the info! I dropped them off today at lunch, and the shop is going to get back with me on Wednesday with their condition. If they are calling for new guides or a valve grind, I'll jump on these.
