Default Had fun changing all my fluids except the coolant, now check engine light is on Whats

Had fun doing the dif, trans, clutch, PS, and brake fluid in my 01Z.

Now my first little trip out on the road the check engine light came on.

Never had a light before on this rig and I am a total newbie.

I have no code reader yet but and going to buy one once I figure out the best one I can find for the $$$

What would you guess the light is one for?

Thanks so much, I love working on this car and all the help you guys give!

Thats it, is it normal to see all these pile up at once of does it hit like a limit and then pop on the check engine light?

Looks like she might be letting me know a new battery is order :-)

Is it better to store a vet with no battery at all? I will be storing it off site for 5 long months :-(

If it needs one I will limp by til storage time drive it to storage and pull the battery, buy a new one in spring.

Low Voltage can cause ALL sorts of bad things on your C5

NO... you might get a quality battery tender, it will NOT hurt to store it with the battery disconnected either.

If it needs one I will limp by til storage time drive it to storage and pull the battery, buy a new one in spring.
When you get one get a good battery lots of discussions on the forum about quality batteries... as you know there are many choices... the yellow top Optima and Sears Platinum are usually near the top of the list but, there are several good batteries to choose from.

The codes are likely from the battery being disconnected. They can be set and remain for months or years after installing a battery.

Personally, I remove batteries when in storage and I charge them on a cement floor once every month or so. A battery takes a long time to go dead without anything connected to it. You wouldn't want to leave any car with a battery tender for 5 months unattended once you've seen a battery spew it's acid. And yes, the AGM batteries are much better but they can leak a little acid too. It doesn't happen very often so the chances of you having an issue are quite low, but it's very destructive if it does happen.

Batteries are like anything else. Shop around for a good deal. I bought an AGM that was $60 cheaper and had a 3 year longer warranty compared to an Optima. The Optima batteries are nothing special anymore so don't pay more for the name.

So the check engine light is only really for emissions?

I get a bit nervous and thought maybe something was wrong with my motor or major problem.

I figure that is what the government wants us to think, get your car in ASAP so they lean on the manufactures to do this check engine light vs check emissions

I do not mind buying a diagnostic checker if need be, but is it best just to have a auto parts store check this out?

Funny I cleared all the codes and the check engine light is off now.

Easiest fix of my life :-)

Thanks so much!

I did NOT wash our car after the last cruise we did and it showed NO codes...that was indeed an abnormal event... why no CODES?
