Default Oil Pan Plug Replacement

Purchased a 2000 FRC a while back and while it's overall condition is excellent, when I went to change the oil I found the head on the oil pan plug to be chewed up badly and it was way over torqued. Took forever to get it loose.

I see replacements on line and some of them reference a half-dozen or more GM part numbers.

Should I just go to the nearest dealer (45 minute drive) for the part, or what?

Any input or experience related information would be appreciated.

Just about any major Corvette parts vendor will have a replacement oil pan plug or as you say, a dealer can get one for you.

I enjoy the drain valve that now replaces the drain plug bolt. I never worry about correct torque , and the ball valve is stiff, it will not open without effort, and the valve handle has a rest to prevent impact openings. Bought it from a vender here, it's a nice part, from Japan.

I like to visually inspect the plug for any whiskers or shavings stuck to it. I suppose you could drag a magnet through the drained oil. Am I alone?

Default OPPR-duh

Finally got the plug out and bought a new one at the local auto zone as suggested here in another thread on the subject.

Had to add a small O-ring as the bore was chamfered. (sp?)

Everything working OK now, fresh oil and filter, no leaks so far.
