Thanks,
I use Mobil1 Extended Performance Synthetic 5W-30 motor oil and a Fram XG3506 Ultra Synthetic oil filter.

I use Mobil 1 Full Synthetic 5W30 oil and an AC Delco PF46E filter. Works well for me.

Mobil1 High Mileage 5W30. It meets the SL rating and has a phosphorous content of 1000 ppm and a zinc content of 1100 ppm

Check this chart for more info

That's what I would use if I ran Mobile-1 since it is closest to the Mobil-1 that was available when the car was manufactured. I do use it in my other older cars of similar vintage, but not in the Vette.

I use Redline Synthetic 5W30 and NAPA Premium filters. Redline Synthetic is pretty high in zinc and is therefore not too catalytic converter friendly. I've run it for over a quarter of a million miles in my truck's 5.3 and have had to replace converters twice. Days of replacing converters are long passed in the vette!

NAPA Gold filters are Wix - even down to the numbers!

Score another vote for Mobil 1 High Mileage - sometimes NAPA Gold, and sometimes Mobil 1 filters.

at one time I had a NAPA rep demo a filter comparison, he cut a Fram filter in half as well as his filter and a Wix ,the Fram had half of the pleats as the Wix and NAPA filters !!!!!

It seems Fram is not very well regarded in general, but its Ultra line is in a total different league compared to the rest of their lineup:
  • Metal endcaps
  • Dual layer synthetic media
  • Wire mesh reinforcement as a 3rd layer behind media
  • Silicone anti-drainback valve
  • Thicker canister
  • 15000 miles with synthetic oils
  • Made in the USA

Check this out for more details.

Take a look at this video showing one of them after 10000 miles in a car:

Surprised not to see any Castrol Synthetic advocates - I use it and whatever filter is on sale (usually a Purolator). Does anyone use additives?
