Default c5 98 auto start (or not) and died after a few seconds

Hi everybody

A friend of mine have his c5 (98 auto) who start (or not) and died after a few seconds

When not starting, he just have to pull the key and put in and it work

When starting, generally, it shut off after 2 ou 5sec... sometime after 45sec or so

I checked DTC with my hptuner, and sometime i can read P1518... and the code desapear...
I asked him to check the mass in the front of the car, he did it, the car more often work longer, but always died before 1mn

FYI, he have sometime "power reduce..." and other, but certainly because low battery... so, all the test i done with him was when charging his car to have +12v

Also, i find the bulletin service about the P1518 code for the 98 c5... (cause the reduce power message) for change the TAC, but dont think it cause the shut off

Last thing, when the key is in... engine off... before test starting... i can see "security" message flashing slowly (one time every 5 ou 10sec), and can ear a noise from the fuel pump exactly when security appear... not sure it's a normal thing !!!???

Thanks for reply

12 volts is NOT enough. You need at least 12.5 volts at the battery before you try and start the motor.

Very likely it is the TAC. 97 and 98 ones had issues requiring GM to redesign it for 99 and later years. The newer ones will work in all years and are the only ones to use.

Do you guys need the 98 P1518 diagnostics?

Yes, i know for the voltage... between 12.5 and 12.8 for all tests of yesterday

The TAC can stop the car ???

Yes, i will be happy with the 98 P1518 diagnostics ^^

Sorry for my English, it's far away from my natural langage (i'm in Europe)

No problem. Glad to try and help. Yes, the TAC can kill the engine.

Good luck. Let us know if we can help more.

If he needs a TAC I would suggest a good used 99 or later form Marc at VetteNuts.net, a great Forum vendor here.
