Default wont start unless i press gas pedal

well today the vette decided it didnt want to start up. i finally held the gas pedal to the floor and it started. once it started it ran fine even when i ran it hard. i shut it off two more times after this and had to hold the gas pedal to the floor each time to get it to start. does this sound like a bad fuel pump? i can hear it running fine. going to take it to a buddies tomorrow to check the pressure. its a 2003 6 speed with 98000 miles on it.

BUCK

Gas PEDDEL held to the floor on a modern day car is CLEAR FLOOD.

If your car is running very RICH, that will help it start.

First things first. Please read and post any and all DTCs that you have using the DIC to monitor them.

the check engine light was already on from what i think is from the alternator. i bought one from Oreileys that just doesnt work well with the vette. anyways heres all the codes that came up. p0151, p0440, p1416, p1637, p1638, c1225, c1232, b1542, b0521, u1160, b2282, b2284, b2264, u1064, b2283, b2285, b2265, and u1016. the fuel pressure goes up to 60 but will bleed off after awhile when i shut the car off. itll eventual go down to 0 after about 15 minutes. i pulled the fuel rail with the injectors to make sure it wasnt bleeding off through one of them but they were all ok.

That's a LOT of DTCs to sort through. Please CLEAR all of them and take the car for a drive. Before you turn the ignition OFF, read the DTCs. Make sure that you also include the H & C at the end of each DTC.

The quick FP leak down could be due to a fuel injector(s) leaking by and essentially flooding the engine. Do what Bill suggested and see what comes back up for DTCs.

i put up there that i pulled the fuel rail and watched the injectors as the fuel pressure bled off. nothing came out of the injectors. i cleared all the codes so i'll see what comes up when it does it again. fighting an alternator problem now...gggrrr

You can't put an aftermarket alt on these cars. If you do a search on this topic you will see how sensitive the car is to a aftermarket alt. Can't say you get lucky with one but the changes are low.

i just returned the Autozone alternator. have you got a link to a site selling an alternator that will work gaurenteed with the vette. the no start issue with my vette hasnt been happening anymore either. wonder if it was something to do with the winter blend of fuels causing a vapor lock issue?

Fuel injected cars don't suffer from vapor lock

even with not having a return? id think that fuel could still get hot enough sitting in one spot to turn to vapors in the fuel rail. i know when we pushed the purge button on the fuel pressure gauge quite a bit of air came out of it.

There's a very small CHECK VALVE in the fuel line that prevents the fuel from draining back into the tank at KEY OFF. If its bad, it will give you the symptoms that you are experiencing. (Sad part,, it NO LONGER made by GM)

If your fuel pressure drops off immediately after key off,,, that's the issue. YES, you will get air out of the fuel rail.
