Yes from where it's fish mouthed...if u r duing this the bend radius is 3.75 pipes are available at summit racing, aluminized or stainless...and somethings I like to add this set up will solve the cruse drone 1500-2100...now that I drove the car for a wile I am getting resonance loudest at 2500 not enough to give u ringing in your ears or headache but enough to irritate me I considering adding resonators somewhere in front of X pipe may be...

This is called a zokusha muffler. Looks like 2 pipes used one for lows and one for mids

That looks like not bad idea...but it really have no need of another j pipe. I would say now that weather is hot it don't even bother me anymore...my goal here was to make straight thru design system with no drone, that part is done! Now I see why the first part of the muffler is needed(the perforated pipes chamber)also known as sound absorbing chamber...this part of it can be altered with muffler X pipe( I wish borla still makes them:-/ ) or couple mufflers like on that magnaflow system i posted pic above

Great writeup! Hemholtz work nicely, and you can actually calculate the most effective location for the side pipes based on the sound frequency of the engines.

I have a Billy Boat Bullet cat-back system with x-pipe and Billy Boat headers. No drone at any rpm and great sound.
Pretty simple, and straight forward.

Well here is a better length for j pipes 25.2" ! That made the car more raspy and got rid of the drone I had between 2300-3000 , over all I like the sound of the car much better it also reduced backfire...the negative side ,little drone 1500 at high gear under load and gous away 1600!the other area is high gear 2500 again gous away 2600 ...i think I am way closer to the sweat spot !

Basically I tried even using just the chamber from stock muffler ...car sounded like poop .... u can se all the pipe graveyard 😙
Long story short I utilized little resonators up over the axle and two more at the end, build from 304 stainless...and I chopped flow master laminar flow muffler to get the guts out...already had the muffler for the end and flow masters were aluminized stee soooo they had to go...! Car now sounds something between too loud and too quiet...you can drive it on the freeway whitout second thoughts

Interesting. It seems you did a 31.5" J then went to a 25.2". Why I showed the zokusha muffler pipe setup. If you had 2 J pipes with both dimensions could have possibly covered low and mid range drone.

Ok let's revise this...I was testing different setups with the regular steel pipes ,having in mind that wen I am happy I will build everything stainless...both 2 overaxle stainless pipes and 4 little resonators with intention to add j pipe later...I wanted to see how it will sound only with resonators .meanwile I got a hold of two laminar flow mufflers for free so I desided to gut them and use the inserts ...car sounds different than with j pipes , more low tone and the drone 2000 to 2500 muffled enough so it's tolerable, can't say that was the tone I was looking for but will drive like this to see how I like it after few months.SuperTom now with the resonators without the insert only droned 2000 to 2500 so 2 j pipes would have solved the problem, honesty I liked the sound of j pipes better,it was more raspy ... I think my final thoughts for you guys will be to build at least 25" long j pipes with resonators !!! Flow master das not make 4" laminar muffler that will fit ,if u use only j pipes then u need to build them finishing like y pipe with each arm different length, using resonators lowers the tone so highway cruse 1500 to 2000 rpm is ok but 2000 to 2500 is problem area and overall tone was not pleasant to me!

Well after initial exitment about laminar flow eliminating drone, couple of 15 min trips on the freeway and driving around town ,I remembered what is to have headaches after driving your c5!cruze was fine but mid rpm where you mostly accelerate from stop sucked ,So here it is j pipes 2.0 304ss...haven't tried it yet ,wanted to smooth some welds before I put it on🙂

Looks Great. How much distance and what is the target area you are trying to eliminate
