mobil 1 high milage is the choice, according to the 1 800 mobil one answer line.

I called because several mobil one formulations state on the container that they meet Gm dextros specs, but the newer oils use less wear inhibitors than when the C5 was developed.

mobil 1 high mileage bottle? I was about to buy the ext. performance bottle the other day. If the car has 21k miles on it.. would the high mileage formula still be the choice?

The newer spec Mobil 1 oils dropped to 800 ppm of ZDDP, which is an anti-wear additive. ZDDP degrades the catalytic converters, a high milage warranty item. High milage Mobil 1 has more than 800 ppm. Guess they figure the cats are out of warrantry.

Don't see Walmart on their list of participating retailers. Says in the fine print that it must be purchased from one of their participating retailers.

Just saw this too. I was comparing prices between some of the listed participating retailers and they vary so wildly! Most aren't in my area but at least here, the 5qt is $26.97 at Home Depot so I'll probably go there, it's only $5 more than Walmart and with the rebate will be cheaper.

FYI - From my experience this type rebate with a mail in requirement usually means they are giving you the discount in return for your personal information - name, address, etc. You will end up on their snail mail and email lists - probably without a opt out clause. Also, they may share your info with other companies. You will get offers from everywhere for everything they may think relates to oil.

It's not worth it to me. I get bombarded as it is with spam and unsolicited offers. In a case like this with Mobile 1, I just wait until a local retailer has a sale (Autozone, Walmart etc.). I worked in IT (computers) for years and I know their motive and how it works. If you don't mind a consistent barrage of ads then go for it. Otherwise, wait for a retailer sale with no sign up requirements. Your call.
