3.73 Gear PCM reprogram, A4
Got my new RPM 3.73 rear drive in, stock gears were 3.15. I knew ahead of time that the PCM would have to be reprogramed, but did not know the details.
Before the gear change, the local Chevy service manager told me that they could do the reprogram, but when presented with the car said no, 3.73 is not a stock ratio, they did not have the program.
A local shop then said they could do the reprogram, and after some missteps and fumbling did change the ratio set forth in the PCM from 3.15 to 3.73.
My first WOT pull resulted in the RPM hitting the rev limiter before the 2-3 shift.
I ended up at A&A Corvette in Oxnard, CA, where the people seemed very knowledgeable. They reprogrammed every part and full throttle upshift as well as every downshift at part and full throttle, using a blended scale for both RPM and MPH. They then test drove the car for verification. They also incidentally reprogrammed the fans to come on at lower temperatures and paid special attention to programming the PCM to avoid an inadvertent 3-1 downshift coming out of slow turns on the track.
A&A Corvette, Oxnard CA, a great experience.
Looking forward to Laguna Seca, May 16.
