Default What is going on with my taillights?

I bought these Halo LED taillights from a reputable seller. The instructions that came with them warned of "hyper flash". I'm ok with hyper flash, but what is going on here? When I have the halos tuned on the outside lamp LEDs don't blink at all, but the HALO does. Is there a fix for this?

The outside brake lights don't work either when the headlights are on.

Anybody running these halo LED tail lights?

Is the same thing happening in the passenger side, or this is only happening in the driver side?

It's happening on both sides. When the running lights or headlights are switched on, the outer taillights don't work.

I just purchased a set, but haven't yet installed them. On my set there are lights marked left and right. Any possibility that you got them reversed? Possibly the connectors that plug into the bulb socket are reversed? Just guessing here. Another less likely possibility is that the lights are wired wrong internally. I believe the original wiring is modified so that only the halo rings light with the tail lights while the whole light comes on with the brakes and turn signals? If that is how yours are supposed to work you might want to open them up and have a look at the internal wiring. Here is a link on how the mod is done:

Hope this helps.

That's odd, I have the modified halo leds and no problems at all. But I also have the hyper flash harness. Have you contacted they seller to see what's wrong with them?

Thanks for the response. Yes, I'm pretty sure the taillights are in the correct position, but I will double check.
Correct, the halo lights up with the tail lights and the whole thing should light up when blinker or brake lights. When my halo is activated (running lights or headlights), the outside lamps (LEDs) don't light. Neither for blinker or brake. When blinking, the outer most halo blinks (It should not) and the LEDs don't light. (see video).

One of my driving lights is burnt out (front), perhaps that has something to do with it?

Did you get yours from RadioFlyer or CorvetteEnvy?

I sent the vendor an email, but haven't heard anything yet.

Those front OEM bulbs have two filaments:
  • One for the DRL/Turn Signal
  • One for the Parking Light

If one of your DRL is burned out that should explain the hyperflashing because that same filament is also used as Turn Signal.

Those Halo/LED taillights are not supposed to cause hyperflash because they have a built-in resistor (inside the aluminum heat sink on their back).

I would begin by replacing the burned out bulb and reassessing the situation.

Test procedure:

Disconnect one of the lights and turn on the turn signal. You should get hyperflash, but only the inner section should light up.

Disconnect that light and repeat with the other light.

Let me know the results.

Thanks for all the help!

They are working now. What I did was to reseat the connectors a few times. Perhaps 18 years of corrosion wasn't allowing for a good connection?

I'm glad you figured it out!

Did you replace the burned out DRL/Turn Signal bulb? Did that fix the hyperflashing?

No, I haven't replaced the bulb yet. I like the hyper flash, hope it doesn't go away.

Replacing the burned out bulb "should' fix the hyperflashing, but if you like it like that you can always get LEDs for your DRL/Turn Signals and not use a hyperflash harness or resistors

Installed my LED taillights today. No problems and they work fine, except they hyperflash. Also, front bulbs are hyperflashing as well. Ordered a hyperflash harness. No burnt out bulbs, so apparently, the built in resistors don't stop hyperflashing.
