Default dreaded ABS light came on

in my 97. Since I bought it 3 years ago when I hit a big bump the ABS light would come on, but would go off when I restarted the car. Yesterday it came on and will not go off, sooooo I figure its finally gone. Unless someone has a suggestion what to check like a bad ground, I am not even going to try and fix it unless a used one falls into my lap.

Check your codes, could be as simple as a bad sensor or connection at one of the wheels?

Check your codes... write them down You may have several H-History codes...
Clear your codes... then go for a drive
BEFORE YOU KILL THE CAR pull the codes again, this should give you C-Current codes

You have to use the dic to pull the codes. A scanner will not show the codes you need to see.

As noted pull the codes, most of the problems are fairly easy DIY fix. Having been there and done them. Steering position sensor looked to be the most complicated but turned out to be straight forward fix. Same with the ABS module, remove it, send it to ABS fixer $125 (or was two years ago) reinstall it when you get it back.

yep, left front wheel sensor, I think its a wiring problem since I changed the hub because of what I thought was a bad bearing, but the problem was something else. I think it was doing the same thing before I changed the hub.

Thanks you guys, always get good advice on this forum.

took wheel off and checked the wiring, looks like some one was there before me, 3 inch section of factory shielding was missing and black tape was on it. took it off and the wires were spliced together, the white wire was all nicked up. so cut out the bad section of wire and spliced in new wire. no more codes. I have ordered a new section of the wiring harness.
