Default Rear end leak question

I have read all of the forum posts and I am guessing the leak that just appeared on my 99 is the "leaky rear end" and not just a leak from running it hard one time. If my guess is correct, I need to take it to a shop, but don't want to drive it if it could cause additional damage. Would appreciate any and all feedback. Also, if anyone in the Raleigh area knows of a good Corvette service shop I would like some recommendations. Thanks Jeff

If the leak just started, chances are not enough fluid has leaked out of the differential to cause any problems during a trip to the dealer.

You can check the fluid level by removing the access plug and using your finger to see where the level is. Here's a file that shows the location of the fill plug.

With a leak that big, I STRONGLY recommend checking the differential fluid level and refilling before driving. DRIVE at a minimum before you get it fixed!

Could be leaking from several areas.

- Output shaft seals "left & right"
- "O" ring joint between the transmission and differential
- Possibly from the vent at the top of the transmission.

Recommend refilling, wiping everything down and then inspect the DIFF/TRANS for additional leakage.

Do you have a MN6 or A4 Transmission?

I have a MN6 and have an appointment next week for service. It will be parked until then. The shop is 10 miles away, but I don't mind towing it there if damage is possible.

it could also be the side cover o-rings and the worst scenario which I hope doesn't apply here, but the case itself could be cracked... with a leak that significant it should be pretty obvious where it's coming from, are you able to get under the car and take a look?
