Active Handling - another discontinued part
Active handling started kicking in at inappropriate times. Mechanic eventually found a part associated with the steering wheel position sensor - plastic - that is broken and apparently no longer available.
It is part #63 on the 2003 Front-Suspension-Steering column assembly.
Any help finding a suitable replacement would be appreciated.

CALL or CONTACT "VETTENUTS" He owns a C5/C6 parts yard and should have a good use part to ship to you!

Is that the Steering Wheel Positioning Sensor or is that #62? What makes him think this is the part that's bad? What code(s) are you throwing? If it is the SWPS then it shouldn't be discontinued for a 2003 AFAIK.

I agree with the above - check with VetteNuts and see if they have the part. Its a shame so many parts are now unavailable from the dealer.

The part number for the SWPS is 88965543 and they are still available for the 2001-2004 models. Cost about $70. Contact Gene at www.cultragfactoryparts.com to order one.

Part #62 in the diagram (original post) is the sensor. I'm looking for part #63.
Thanks!

When we changed mine in my '04 I thought that it was all together as a unit. Been a few years now so I could be wrong. This getting old is not what it is cracked up to be. Damn CRS setting in!!

A little more research... it looks like my mechanic is talking about the part called the dust seal in other threads... such as this one: https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...-sensor-2.html
Not sure in what way it is broken or how that will cause the AH to kick in randomly. I have found the sensor itself... although my mechanic says it tests our fine.
Not completely sure what I need at this point.

Can't see where a dust shield would cause the problem. Pull your codes on the DIC and I bet you will get C1287 and/or C1288. Takes awhile for them to set sometimes. My '04 did the same thing and it took about two weeks for the codes to show up. Really gets your attention when the car pulls to the side at speed.

Ran into this issue with a friends car. The steering wheel positioning sensor was used on a number of Cadillac models during the same years of production. Do a google search on the part number and you get a list of models and years

Not completely understanding it either... I haven't held the parts in my own hand so I'm relying on my mechanic... who I pretty much trust. We talked yesterday and he will replace the whole assembly but can't get the one part from GM. Marc says he can get them, so I'll get it all finished at once.
Let me know if you need anything else.
Marc
