Default Advice on bringing new life into my 2002 Vert.

Hi guys, so I decided to bring some new life into my tired totally stock 2002 C5 Auto Vert, and put my new shop to good use. It's got 145k miles on it. While it still runs good, it's tired, and needs some TLC. The plan is to rebuild the LS1, the transmission, and the rear end. I'll also go through the suspension, and brakes as well.

First things first. I want to rebuild the motor with mild mods. Honestly I don't want to spend a fortune on this car, but I do want to boost the power. But, most importantly, I want to keep it streetable, and reliable. I'd say if I can add 75 HP or so, I'd be happy. Here's my plan so far, and I'd like to hear suggestions on what else I should do, upgrade, or consider. Keep in mind, this is a budget build. I don't want to spend 5k on the motor.

1. Keeping Stock LS1 intake, injectors, coils, unless I can find a deal on an LS6 manifold.
2. Upgrade to a Stock LS6 Cam
3. Upgrade to GM performance valve springs, retain stock rockers
4. Retain stock heads, rebuild of course (suggestions here)
5. Upgrade to GMP Oil pump
6. May reuse the stock existing pistons???
7. New stock lifters, push rods, timing chain, ect.
8. Retain stock crank, rods, ect.
9. Headers? Not sure which???
10. Will most likely get a new exhaust system, not sure which yet???

What else should I be looking at doing to attain my performance goals? Recommendations on parts would be appreciated

Here are a few pics of where I am so far. Got the body off of the drivetrain today. Ready to start.

BTW, I will be doing all of the assembly work myself, less the machine work. I have the GM shop manuals, as well as a Rebuilding an LS book. Thanks for the input.

02 already has the LS6 intake so scratch that from the list. I would also bet if you check the block casting, it is the LS6 block as well. My 02 has the LS6 block.

Hmmm I would upgrade the heads to the 243's heads(Z06) and rebuild the torque tube while you have it out

Yes, it's an LS6 block. I didn't realize the 02's had the LS6 Intake.

Not sure which rear ratio you have, but a lower ratio might be a consideration. Not sure how far away you want to get from stock.
