Default Are windshields prone to pitting?

I mean are these more prone than other cars? Mine is pitted bad, pulls fuzz off a microfiber towel. I've used Rain-X on it but doesn't seem to help.
I don't want to pay for replacing if it's just going to pit all over.

Mine is probably just as bad as yours. Short of replacing the windshield there's not much you can do

A pitted windshield on a car that may be pushing 20 years old..... who would of thought? That totally has to be a production defect.

No kidding! I also noticed my car got dirty. I don't want to wash it because it'll just get dirty all over again.

Since you have no idea how many miles are on the OPs car, that is a rather un-informed statement. My car has 21K miles on it and also has a number of chips in the windshield. The C5 windshield does seem to chip easily and unless a replacement windshield is tougher, the OP will be facing the same problem even with a replacement.

its due to how low the car set's it prone to getting small pit's that you don't notice right away...it happens...my 03 z06 still has the original windshield in it..and its pitted ...

I have two other vehicles with more mileage and the pitting is not evident at all. The vette is very bad with less mileage. Just wondering if this is typical. I also understand that having just purchased it I don't know where it was driven and that does make a big difference.

My 02 C5 has 110,000 miles on it and the original windshield. It looks like it is kind of dusty when driving into bright sunlight even when it's clean. Not a major problem just kind of annoying.

Simple answer, yes.being so low to the ground you get all the road dirt from all the cars around you.useing your washer fluid don't help either, the blades make a complete pass before it comes out causing scraches on the glass.

Did I get the one good windshield they installed? Mine is in good shape after 19 years and 80k miles. It's been hit quite a few times by good sized stones, or whatever, but due to the angle they seem to glance off. Wife's car with similar mileage (but car is almost 10 years newer) is in worse shape. Eastwood makes a glass polish which is meant for restorers. Anyone tried it?

Quote: "This professional glass polishing kit can be used to fix scratched glass and clear away years of dings and wiper haze from your windshield, and save you hundreds of dollars in potential replacement costs. Ideal for older cars with hard-to-replace windshields."

Just put comp coverage with a $0 deductible and turn in a claim. Your premium will probably go up 2 or3 bucks a month, but the claim won't affect your rates.
Pitted windshields are a visual hazard and really badly pitted windshields are structurally weakened.
