What gear for A4 drag Racing?
What is the best gear to drag race in "D" gear or "3" gear and why? Note this will occur on 315 bfg drag radials in a C5 w/ ati P-1 SC, 452 rwhp. thanks guys

I am no drag-racer, but I took my 3.42 A4 (with stock TC) to the 1/4 mile track and ran in 3rd gear with plenty of RPM left at the end of the run. I surely wouldn't have wanted the tranny to shift into OD during a 1/4 mile run.

You can leave it in drive. The car will NEVER shift into OD during the 1/4 mile unless you can pull a trap speed of around 140-150. Leave in drive and just point and click, its that simple

Also, if you leave it in D, at the end of the quarter mile the trans will do some braking for you so you don't cook your brakes.

"Why?" you ask. If you have to jump back on the gas and you are in over-drive, you are toast. You won't get the rapid acceleration you want. BUT if you are driving in third gear and have to jump on it again, the power will be right there under your foot.
Brother Redgar passed this little tid-bit on and I am just repeating his wisdom. :yesnod:
