Default TPMS full conversion to 01-04 = $252

This is one of the things I'm tracking down online while up all night on the phone with a problem from work.

I've seen prices from $500 to $700 for this kit and decided to do some detective work in hopes of taking the bite out of what should be a much more pocket friendly repair/upgrade.

One of my TPMS valve stems cracked and needs replacing. The car is a '99. I'd replace just the one and be done, except I will be running a spare set of wheels in the summer. One set of OEM C5 Z06 wheels. One set of CCW SP500.

So I will need more sensors and I don't feel like paying $75 x 8 ($600) for the sensors based on the best price I could find currently for the Schrader brand (OEM supply to AC Delco) TPMS sensors for 97-00. Though I don't yet know if any of these sensors will work on the CCWs based upon dimensions.... I'll have to call them tomorrow, not least of which because I did not receive a full set of lug nuts with the SP500s.

Anyway, here goes:
$87 - 10312535 - Remote Control Receiver 01-04
$23 - 25695954 + 25695955 - 2x Key Fobs
$22 - 12102635 - Wire Harness
$30 - 25773946 - TPM wheel sensor 01-04 (Thinking I lucked out. It's Black Friday today. I scored 6 @ $30 overnight. Now they're in the $50 to $60 range)

That's 120+22+23+87 = $252 for you guys upgrading with just one set of sensors

The receiver I ordered via GMPartsDirect. Everything else is via Amazon. Everything listed is AC Delco OEM except for the fobs. I figured they are generic and easily replaced if need be - unlike the sensors.

The only thing I'm still seeking would be the part number for the securing nuts. I'm sure they're $5 each or something.

Edit: I found the nuts! (Har har) PN: 17800699 - $5 for a pack on Amazon, so it is $257 as a total project. $270 if we add the $12 shipping for the receiver. Everything else was Prime.

Enjoy! Upgrade to a whole new system with much more easily replaced sensors for the future at a cost less than what is typical for replacing 3 sensors on your current '97-'00 car.

Not bad, but I'm on a hell'a budget. I bought the 2001+ receiver off ebay for $40 , 2 key fobs off amazon for $22. Then I used a pin pusher to remove the wires out of the old harness, a little crimp and some heat shrink then slid them on the appropriate pins in the new receiver. Nice and tight ! TPMS 24/7 has a set of 4 new sensors for $111.70 with 2 day shipping. That's $173.70 for my cheapo conversion. But I always get flamed on here for my tight ways.

NICE!

Don't worry. There really aren't a lot of owners who would wrench on their own cars. Have you ever gone to a local Corvette Club show near you and looked for modded cars with more than a Corsa muffler and some chrome pieces?

Ha!

As luck would have it, I just checked e-mail and the receiver part is backordered. I'm grabbing a used one instead and dropping the cost to $210 total.

Noice!

I think the one i bought was listed for $50 "buy it now" or submit offer. I went $40 it took the seller 3 days to except. Find one that is make offer. These aren't flying off the shelf anymore. $40 in hand beats waiting 4 months for $50.

Can you program out the TPMS on a 2000? If I could, I would program it out, but so far have not been able to figure a way to do it with my Tech2. If you know the procedure please post it and help out a computer illiterate old fart. Mike

I'm not sure if it can be done like that. I asked my tuner and he said the TPMS was part of the BCM not the PCM . So his tuning computer and program wouldn't touch it.

mike48750, I believe that the 2001-2004 are the only years you are able to have the tpms programmed out.

I am pretty sure you are correct, but I have been wrong many times in the past so I am all ears if someone has a procedure I can follow with my Tech2. Mike

While I do own a tech 2, I wouldn't delete the program on my car. I drive it almost year round and it is handy knowing that the psi is 23 in the cold new England morning vs 35 by mid afternoon.

Sounds like one heck of a deal for upgrading to the newer system.

For those on a budget, you can hit a junkyard and pull a TPMS Harness from any number of vehicles. This connector is used on a BUNCH of different GM cars. Part number is 12102635 (use that to cross reference vehicles) and with minimal effort you should be able to walk out with one for about $5 or less depending on entry fee.

Ebay usually has the receivers for about $50ish BUT, going used, you run the risk of coming across one not having the TPMS accessible like I did with my first one.

Thanks for the reply racebum. I have tried and not found a way to get rid of the annoying message on start up and shut down. It is a nice feature but one I would never use, I check my tires with a gauge almost daily. When I bought my car the sensors had already been done away with. I am not even sure they will fit on the aftermarket wheels my car has on it. I also am not a FOB guy, I hate them, so I don't carry one. At the price the OP listed I will make my car whole again, thanks all for the interesting replys/topic. Mike
