Great thread - obviously, no atrophy of your welding/fabrication skills as a result of your desk-job! Nice work.

I can't believe I just found this thread. Incredible craftmanship sir, it's beautiful and very well thought and engineered.
Would love to hear more sound clips and videos. Great job!

Job well done, talent beyond myself.. Question TINMAN. whats the engine build in your 1st video compared to stock c5 z06.
That thing sounded perfect and Im curious if its more engine related?
I drove a late model on the track for a bit and it sounded just like your 1st video. I was excited every time i got to strap in and have wanted to get the same sound from my c6.
let me know your thoughts. your last video was closer to 1st video but something is still off. Congrats all around for amazing work and effort.

Thanks!

The engine in the first video is a 392c.i. SBC with SB2.2 cylinder heads. It only has 10.5:1 compression and a smallish cam but the rotating assembly and flywheel are very lightweight.

I wouldn't want to know the price if he did

It's a bummer these did not add the hp/tq you would want given the time/effort put into them but there is 100000% cool factor!

Curious about your J-pipe approach given your fab skills. A project I have in mind has me battling exhaust routing vs muffler selection and ability to cure potential drone from it.

I haven't fabbed a J-pipe yet but the current mufflers do have the negative side effect of drone. Currently, the mufflers are inline with the car C6 style but further back which leaves me room to run J-pipes where the factory mufflers were. Sorry, I can't take a picture until I pull it out of storage in April.

What mufflers do you run again? I must have missed it. Last I read you used OEM Ti system.

So do you have the rear lower trunk cut out to run mufflers “inline” and straight out the back?

otherwise i assume they are some small bullet mufflers/resonators.

Correct, it currently has a pair of custom fabbed mufflers 5" round and 9" long. Due to their small size I did not have to cut out the lower trunk section.

Damn, now you really have me curious fitting a muffler that size on a C5 with an unmodified trunk area...this gives me hope and a whole new option for an exhaust setup that may work for me!

It is a tight fit but proven possible. The mufflers angle slightly outward towards the rear to clear the trunk floor. The exhaust then quickly offsets inward and upward to the opening in the rear bumper cover.

I have been wondering where these headers came from, turns out I ended up with the car that has these bonkers headers.

It's still got some of the issues from it's listing previously with some others
(Leaky butt, likely busted diff clutches etc)

Swapped in some cheap C6 seats and sourcing a silver hood to use the slightly-off hood to cut vents in.

The car also had an airbox fabbed up that seemed restrictive but it cut the radiator shroud a ton so I made it work for now.

Cool to see all the work involved with these!
