Default 99' Z51 and 01' Z06 suspension differences?

I just picked up a complete '01 Z06 suspension system from a friend who installed a T1 kit; springs, shocks, control arms and swaybars. I have read that the front spring is no different than the Z51. Is this true even for a '99? Also wondering about the differences in the swaybars and control arms. I know the shocks are stiffer :D

I don't want to install anything that isn't gonna make a difference. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

I think the front swaybar is thicker, the rear is the same, and the shocks are stiffer for the Z. Not sure about the springs and control arms. :seeya

Here's a breakdown on the differences:

Front Bar: Z51(97-99), Z51(00-02), Z06(01-02)
Rear Bar: Z51(97-99), Z51(00-02), Z06(same as Z51 00-02)
Front Spring: Z51(97-02), Z06(same as Z51 97-02)
Rear Spring: Z51(97), Z51(98-02), Z06(01-02)

Control Arms: Are the same for all years.

c5cemo, I have a 99' FRC (z51) and have installed a zo6 suspension except for the shocks, which I installed the Bilstein sports instead of the zo6. Bottom line is you need to install both front and rear sway bars (with endlinks and the bushings), the rear spring and all four shocks.

Anyone know the difference in mm for each bar? As well as % of stiffness?

Whoa, stop the presses! You don't need to put in the front spring if you all ready have any year z51! All the z51 and all the zo6 front springs are the same rate. The zo6 rear spring is 10% stiffer than all the rear z51 springs.

Oh well, I just finished the install and did the front spring...took 2.5 of the 6 hour job  I wish I would've waited another week to do it but I had the time today...

Thanks for the reply. At least I know how to break the entire front suspension down now

 Sure hope you didn't seperate the ball joints for the front....as the spring install can be done without that proceedure. In short, raise the front end, remove upper A-arm bolts(both sides), remove the lower shock bolt(both sides), and remove lower sway bar link bolt(both sides). Both lower A-arms should be hanging freely, and spring can then slide out easily.

Hehe :D Yup, I did seperate the ball joints. I guess I can see how it's not necessary for the job but, when I work on my car, I like to get things out of the way...have a clear path  It really wasn't difficult, just time consuming. Luckily I had a dampner puller that fit the job perfectly.

Thanks for the tip. Hopefully those that are following this thread will learn from everyones input. I know I did

BTW, I called my local dealer to get both of the GM tools needed for the job per the service manuals, J 42188 ball joint remover and J 33432 spring compressor. They didn't have either  in fact, they told me they don't even sell them, never have
