Default How much horsepower needed for a C5 to hit 200mph top end speed.

Title says it all but let's assume first that the car is an A4 with either the stock 2.73 rear end or performance axle 3.15. With these smaller numeric stock gear ratios in a A4, how much rear wheel horsepower would one need to hit a top end speed of 200mph.

As their are a ton of M6 C5s on the forum, same question for an M6, assuming stock 3.42 gear ratio.

Sorry, I can only tell with 3.42 gears.
I had about 550 rwhp (on the bottle) when I got over the 200mph mark.

LOL, just replied to virtually identical post

According to the calculations I got, it would take ~421rwHP for Coupe and ~444rwHP for HardTop or Convertible to hit 200MPH (probably a bit more power due to rolling resistance which is not much, but is there)
This assumes 265mm front/295mm rear tires…
You must have enough RPM and enough power at all RPMs below the top speed to actually get there

Also like others said Nitrous is no good for top speed runs….

Truth be told, if you are asking how much rwhp you need, doesn't matter if it is a manual or an auto given both are already taken into account by the time you get to rw calculations.

I'm with Tuan Le...do a video when you get there. While I might have enough HP to get there on motor, you won't be seeing a video of me watching the speedo as I get there. Too much s h i t can fall off a car and the slightest little wiggle can fry you at that speed. Sorry I'm talking like a little old man but 165 was my tops, I might have done 10-15 more but ran out of road....but any more just makes my toes curl. I'm making myself laugh....going off the road at 180 isn't much different than doing it at 200 I guess. :D :nono: :nono: :nono:

Be safe. Wow my 6000th post too!

Doug

Depending on how cold the air is here in FL I have between 500 and 550 and I could have pushed beyond the 200 mark with the 342's I am thinking maybe 210 max with my 390's, but I'll have to drink a quart of single malt scotch to do it.

I'm looking for a nice road :D I have 450 RWHP and think 195 is very attainable. My car was rock solid at 175 when the motor was stock. Remember the difference between 195-200 and 210 can be big as far as handling and saftey. For the track I want to do some areo work. I ran 163 at Pocono on the long course last year with my GF and feel 170 will be possible with better tires, no passenger, and some areo work. That was also without much seat time since the previous year. It was the second session of the year. As Snowman said things could get really squirrely. You could do fine at 190 and really start to lift at 200 IMHO. That's why I want to vent my hood also to stop lift as you pack much air under it as we know and have seen the lift.

I would guess i was ~575rwhp when i did my run with the 200 pills in since my bottle pressure was at 1300psi. I had a single 15lb bottle back then and went through about 10lbs on that run. I dont recommend this way to make the power to do high speeds.

Someone once posted this before; also, a good rule of thumb is every additional 1-2 hp is good for 1 MPH:
