TSB #02-06-01-038 "Engine Knock of Lifter Noise" - Who has had it?
I have a tick in the motor since returning from Bowling Green that only happens on start up and lasts for about 30 seconds. It doesn't sound like piston slap, but rather a lifter. Has anyone had the cut o-ring called out in the above TSB and if so, what were the symptoms?
TIA

Do you know which years (or VINs) are affected? My '03 ticks like an old f*&^ing car when started, but only when HOT (no noise when started cold). It lasts about 5 seconds or so. I had piston slap on an F150 4x4 I used to have; this thing is in the valves. I never had a US V8 motor that sounded like this; all were very quiet, all the time. Is this normal on hydraulic valves, or pushrod motors?
Forgot: this is since new, and car has 1,400 miles, but it's louder now that it's in the high 90s. Changed oil at 750 miles with Mobil1 5/30.
Thanks.

This particular TSB is 2001-2003. I did pick up an useful tidbit on another forum, check your oil when hot by pulling the dipstick and looking for bubbles/foam. This is a good indication of the cut o-ring. I have also read that these motors are just noisy when cold, but for me this just started after returning from Bowling Green. Had 7,200 miles when I left and now has 10K. Hope this doesn't continue as the motor accumulates more miles.
