how much would a brake job cost for a C5?
I'm going out of town and need brakes. I don't have time to do it myself. This is my first brake change. How much would I expect to pay?

If you're talking just brake pads, you'll spend more time waiting on them to get your car done than you will changing out the pads yourself.
Performance Friction Carbon Metallic brake pads from Autozone will cost you right at $100 for all four wheels.
If you go to a shop, I'd expect them to charge $50-100 labor, and I'd take them the pads.
HTH, and have a good one,
Mike

Figure about $200 for labor (including rotor resurface) plus the price of pads. :yesnod: (this is at a shop not the dealer).

As GM says in the Service Manual do not resurface the rotor unless it is damaged, just change the pads. Have been doing this for 30 years on many different cars with no problems.

JMO but I like the GM pads for daily driver usage. I know they cost more but I know for a fact we have less problems on cars when we use them at our dealership. Ours is a flat rate of 2 hours labor + parts.

I have to change my brake pads too, except that my rotors are severly warped. Should I skim the rotors or replace them? As well, I don't know what pads I should get, gm, raybestos, or what? Any input is much appreciated.

Turning rotors just becomes a death spiral for the rotors: take off material, reduce the thermal mass, the rotors get hotter, warp, etc. etc. Just not worth turning rotors anymore.

Just replace them. Several vendors on the forum will sell them to you for about $50-60. Do a search and you should find several hits.
