*Stupid Question** Dual zone climate control
What the heck does the passenger **** do???
if the temp is set at 60... and you turn the passenger **** on its colder setting ... should it blow colder???
I have played with the passenger side.. I dont think it makes a difference...

I think it just controls a flapper inside the ducts to direct less air to the passenger side.

If your ac is set to 60, it will never blow colder than that on the pass side. It is for when on any other setting, it will blow colder or warmer on the passenger side based on what setting you have for the drivers side. The top or bottom limits will cease all operation of that switch

Re: *Stupid Question** Dual zone climate control (ICULUKN-C5)
ICULUKN-C5,
If the temperature setting (in automatic or manual mode) is set to either extreme (60 or 90) - the passenger temperature adjustment control is bypassed. The temperature setting must be at least 2 or 3 degrees above or below the minimum or maximum settings for the passenger temperature adjustment control to operate.
Wow - that was confusing.

Not a stupid question. IMO this is another GM screw up when they did this system in the Vette.
In my other cars, at least when you touch the passenger side control (in a dual zone system) the display acknowledges it! The Vette's control doesn't do anything to let you know you are adjusting it or that it is even working!
My understanding of the Vette's controls is that it will only allow the passenger side to adjust up to 5 degrees from what the driver side is set at. I could be wrong though.

You know, I too was chicken to ask this question, thinking it was stupid. Glad you asked it though!
But I get the impression from the responses that "in the real world", it looks and acts like the "close door" button in an elevator. Does just about nothing. It drives me crazy because the HVAC display never appears to ackowledge me twisting the sucker from left to right....

Never have checked mine or even cared too... what is important is my girlfreind thinks it works and it keeps her happy. The fact she has a **** that is hers and she is free to turn it anytime was smart thinking on GM's part.

The passenger dial is cal'd to provide the temp within 6*F of the driver's setting. Fully CCW = -6*, centered is even with drivers temp setting and fully CW is +6*, not to exceed system temp limits.

I actually like the system. So what if the display doesn't show a change, it works and works great. Now, for all of you that don't like it. I've got a 2003 Silverado. Absolutely hate the HVAC system. The drivers and passenger is completely independant. Great in theory, but I find it a pain to constantly turn 2 ***** now instead of 1 for a quick heat up, or cool off. The passenger side never gets overridden.
