I just purchased a 2000 vette with a Corsa exhaust and a K&N air induction system.
I've been reading this web site to learn as much as possible, but I haven't seen any discussions pertaining to a Vigilante torque converter.
I have one in my Turbo T, and boy did it make a difference.
I'm just wondering why I haven't seen much talk about torque converters?
Are the stock ones good enough?
Obviously I have an automatic. :confused:

The stock converters stall too low (only about 1600 RPM) and are not good for performance. The Viglante converters are very good and are reasonably priced. The Yank's are more efficent in most cases and will give higher trap speeds, but will cost about $200.00 more than the Vigilante Converters. :cheers:

I did not know that Yank converters where more efficient, any real world proof on that by our members ? or is it advertising effect from Yank :-)

Do you know if you can get Yank with 5 disck lock up clutch ?

If Yank is more efficient on the top end than Vigilante, Vigilante would equal that out by locking converter at WOT
I lock mine with a switch during racing and it feels like another 50 hp :-)

The Vigs are only about 92% to 94% efficent the Yank's are as much as 96% efficent. Just look at what the vast amount of guys are running, that should tell you which converter the guys think is best.

Yank does not offer a 5 disk converter. However if you can Yank maybe he can make one.

I've only heard good things about a Vigilante. I'm very happy with mine. The only thing is that it's a bit noisey.
I guess I'll have to do some research about a Yank converter.

you guys never say anthing about tci??i have one 3000 and love it, kevin at tci will restall for me, as i just did h/c, for free to 3800. their prices are much better, check out @ texas speed. why not? just my opinion :lol:

I'm actually looking to buy a Vigilante. A new FLP trans is shipping to me, and I had the L4 upgraded to an L5 (cryogenic gear treatment, 5-gear pinion) since I'm running over 700fwhp.

The Vigilante is a 9.5" converter, I believe the Yank is a 10". That may explain the efficiency difference, but lockup is 100%.

For my application FLP suggested the Vigilante over the Yank. This was because of billet steel components. FLP said that when you cut open the Yank and Vigilante next to each other, the solid construction of the Vigilante is much better than the Yank. FLP has had some high HP customers with Yanks where parts from a damaged converter gets into the transmission, and FLP has to rebuild the trans.

Note that not all Vigilante converters are the same, there are 3 models for the 4L60LE transmission: Single disk, 3-disk, and 5-disk.
