Default LS6 vs. LS1 heads

Are they LS 6 heads really that better than the LS1? I want to upgrade but what would be the best set up? LS1 ported? LS6? LS6 ported? I saw a vender offering LS6 heads ported w/no cores are they worth investing into? Or should I just get my LS1 heads ported ??
thanks

This is a good question. The LS 6 heads are better (flow) that a LS 1 head. Maybe another consideration might be the 6.0 head or the LQ9 head. It is very close to the LS 6, but a lot cheaper. This was a choice for me. LS6 heads (1000-1500) or LQ9 (200-400). They flow well, but lower compression.

Good luck !

It also depends on your goal? For instance, the Z06's, LS6 engine is rated for 405hp. If you simply change to the LS6 Cam with the LS1 heads the dyno numbers are VERY similar (around 350rwhp). The heads don't buy much, if anything, with a mild cam.

If you intend on going well past the performance of a Z, then maybe the heads will make a difference? You will have to get input from others with more experience. But, if you do a search on this forum, you will see guys with a stock LS1, swap to the LS6 cam and then put down the same HP numbers as the LS6.

Personally, I would go with the 6L heads to lower compression.

The LS6 heads do have a little more flow potential, but in my opinion they are not worth the dough unless you are running a big bore or superstroker engine. If you are going to stay 346 dont waste your money. Go with good stage 2 5.7 heads, 5.3 heads, or LQ9 6.0L heads.
