Whats the most common reason the check engine light comes on
I have a 98 mn6 and i was puttign along the other day and it just popped up out of no where, cant say that i feel any difference in the performance of the car :confused: I'm sitting at a bit over 31K, i know its a shot in the dark, but any one want ot take a stab

The most common cause for check engine light, (emission related), I would guess, is a loose gas cap.

Gas cap improperely secured would be my guess, I bet Chevy dealers get hundreds of cars in each week all over America for a Check Engine Light that is the result of not securing the gas cap properely. I fell victim to that, thank goodness for the CF and the ability of the C5 to reset the codes and "fix itself".
