HELP: PCM swap 1998 -> 2000 or newer?
What do I have to change? Wires also? Any experience?
Reason for change:
1. The PCM of the newer models has more features than the PCM of my 98.
2. The creators of the new EFILive FlashScan will maybe not support the 97/98 PCM.
Thanks Rene

:lurk:
This is a good question. The 97/98 PCM is very different than the newer PCMs. The processor speed, communictation protocols, and PCM functionality are different in the earlier PCM's.
Can a newer PCM (99-up) be used to replace a 97/98 PCM in order to gain the ability to use the enhanced features now available with 3rd party software?
Can you flash a newer PCM with at 97/98 VIN and still retain a PCM calibration from a newer model year?
Will 3rd party software like HPTuners, LS1Edit, EFILive be able to recognize and adopt such changes?

Re: HELP: PCM swap 1998 -> 2000 or newer? (bgood)
The pin outs are completely changed on 99 and newer, so just swapping will not work.
However, with the proper schematics and patience you could swap the wires in the two connectors (160 of them). After this you will have to have the PCM flashed with your VIN and then, and here's the real issue, deal with the difference in the VATS.
I'd like to hear from anyone that's done the swap.

Re: HELP: PCM swap 1998 -> 2000 or newer? ('97 C5)
To many questions over PCM swap!
If the pin outs between the years has completely changed, then I would prefer to change the whole Engine wiring harness.
As I know, there are no new or different sensors on the 99/00.
Only the location of the MAT has changed, and maybe the design of a few plugs.
I guess I should prefer the PCM of the 99/00 with the 2 Cats and not the newer one with the 2 Pre-Cats.
Any ideas ?
