I will be the first to say NO. :nono:, in this thread I am. :D Why? Transmissions are not designed as braking units. When in slower traffic and in a lower gear you are using the A4 for a brake of sorts. This accelerates the wear on the clutches/plates within this already over taxed component. The extra heat generated will also contribute to your transmissions untimely early demise.
A transmission is a gear change devise. Brakes are for braking......leave it at that.
That's my version and it might not be true.

I do in heavy stop and go traffic. Speeds usually from 0-10-15-10-5, etc. It keeps the trans from constantly shifing 1-2-1-2-1-2-1.

H-
Low speeds are OK, like sub 30MPH, but you are better off leaving it in 3rd, as the weakest part of the tranny in a C5, is the shift from third to fourth.
I make it a habit in traffic under 50/55 MPH to leave it in third, and not let it do that 3rd to 4th shift. It helps alot, and will definitely help your tranny last longer.
