Default LOW OIL LEVEL reset procedure ?

I went to start my 2000 A4 this morning and the DIC displayed
the message LOW OIL LEVEL so I checked and it was a quart low
so I topped it off and I still get the low oil message. I have reset
the oil life to 100% and even disconnected the battery. Is there
a reset procedure for this message or is my oil level sensor bad ?
If the sensor is bad where is it located and how hard is it to replace
I rather not take it back to the dealer.

Thanks >>>>> INTHERED

Same thing happened on my 00 a4
repalced the oil sensor and the still will not clear and stay cleared
battery disconnect and that worked for a couple of days
and the problem came back
Yes
Does anyone know how to cure this problem????

Mine even did it right after the sensor change before it left the shop
and it is full of oil

Anyone out there please help us
thx

You have to drain the oil, the sensor is in the back bottom of the pan!

had oil changed yesterday it still only shows 3 bars but not chirping the low oil message. It usually went away for me after a few startups.

I just had the same problem when I changed my oil and put 5.5 quarts of oil in instead of 6.5. After I filled to the correct level the message would keep poping up. After about 6 to 7 resets it final went away. That was about 2 weeks ago, so I would say keep reseting the message and it will eventually go away.

The low oil message will generaly come on when 1 quart low.It can also set after simply changing the oil. There is no way to reset the message, the computor will do so on its own when the perameters it is looking for have been met

How long did you have the batery disconnected? Give it a couple of hours.

OK then I reset the DIC message, Then I reset the oil life monitor
and then disconnected the battery for 3 hours and now its fixed

Exact same experience for me except the oil was never really low on my car, I had just parked it on a very steep hill at RoadAmerica

Don't laugh, this the real deal.
Turn the ignition on but don't start the car. Push the gas pedal to the floor 3 times.

Not the most intuitive thing.
You can also reset it via dic reset proceedure in the owners manual. But the gas pedal is quick and easy.

I don't remember where I first heard of it but GM had oil life indicators long before they had DIC interfaces so they had t come up with a way to reset the indicator.

That is the standard proceedure for other GM cars with an Oil Change Light. GM must have carried it to the C5, but may not have put it in the manual.

My '97 MonteCarlo had the same proceedure.

On my C5 I just hold reset for 5 seconds, same thing with the oil low.

We both are a little off track. When he referred to "3 bars" he meant the HUD and each bar there is around 10 psi.
