Default Everyone With Squealing Noise From Spec Clutch Come In

I have a stage 2 spec clutch in my car that squeals like a seal everytime I engage the clutch in first gear....embarrasing and annoying to say the least. I called spec and they say that this is not common on the stage 2 and that their warranty only lasts for 120 days. I want to know if any of you guys are experiencing the same problem....

I have heard very little good feedback regarding SPEC clutches. Their stage III is great for the track but I would not touch a SPEC for the street. If you look at the specs on the stage II it is on par with the Z06 and the Z06 is without the headaches of an aftermarket clutch.

My Spec Stage II still works like a champ, installed 2 years, 10,000 miles back. It did chatter for about 200 miles (break in), but no squealing noise, ever. I have smooth engagement, and it clamps hard, with no slip. Works fine for the street and the drag strip. Sorry you are having problems.

I noticed the same thing you describe a couple of weeks ago - weird squeek / moan noise when the clutch is disengaged / engaged in first gear sometimes. I do not know what to do about it. The clutch seems to work fine, but you are right, the noise is irritating and embarrassing. If you find out the root casue or solution before I do, please let me know.

BTW, I have the SPEC Stage III (with the composite disk).

You may need to bleed the hydrolics.

The shop told me to go with their Spec hybrid because it was the best all around set up. Now I have an artic seal in the trunk yelling for food every few dozen launches.

Default Seal or Sea lion?

My experience with the Spec III clutch that I feel I properly broke in is that it chatters and sounds like a California Sea Lion not a Seal-there is a difference of course!
In my opinion the Spec III should not be used on the street, perhaps the Spec 2.5.
However most 383/427 guys seemed to have moved on to Exedy or LUK...perhaps we are just Lemmings, but that seems to be what's happening!

Sounds like a pilot or throwout bearing for sure. Most likely pilot. Did you change them out when you put in the SPEC clutch?

hehehe, yep, mine is a ceramic stage IV SPEC and it used to squel like a stuck hog everytime the clutch was disengaged from 1st, but it usually does it only when cool out now. I was told that the ceramic disc's all squeled!? THis is my only vehicle and the clutch is a little rowdy for everyday use, but it has +40k miles on it and still hanging in there every time its called upon. And despite mine proving to be very durable, i have several buddies that have had very short lived SPEC stage III's in their cars which have much less than the "max HP rating" for the clutch.????
