Want new wheels for the Z, But is there any reason I cant just put 18" rims on all 4?
I was just thinking my Z06 would look better with 18 inch rims on all 4 corvers. I want to go with either black with polished lip Z06 replicas, or the Chrome Z06 replicas. MY Z06 is black and I think the chrome would look great, but I cant decide between the 2 yet lol.
Anyhow, why do we have 17 inch rims on the fronts?
Would I have to go to 19s in the rear to put 18s on the front?
Thanks

You can do 18's all around, or 18's front and 19's back. I like the better ride from the 17's in front personally with the 18's out back. I had 18's all around for awhile. 18's on the front were a bit to ruff for me for a nice street car. Not out of the question though by any means, just where I am with the car right now.
I have black motorsport wheels. Check with Bob from the House of Wheels, he has great prices right now.

I wouldn't get 18 fronts for the following reasons:
1. decreased brake torque - this is noticeable.
2. tires cost more - a lot more.
3. bigger wheel=Increased unpsrung weight
3. cosmetics - rear wheels look smaller than fronts because there is more body around them. I am convinced that is why the rears are one size larger anyway, stock. There is certainly no practical reason for it.

I have as 02 Z06. Factory size is 17 x 9.5 front & 18 x 10.5 rear. I installed Hickock 18 x 9.5 front & 18 x 11 rear. There are no clearance issues but make sure that the rolling diameter of any new tire is as close to original as possible. this is key.

1.Decreased brake torque- The 275/35/18 front tires I have are the exact same diameter as the factory 265/40/17 tires. Why would braking be any different?
2. Tires cost more- I guess I can't argue with this, but If I were worried about spending an extra $100 on tires every couple of years, I probably shouldn't have bought a Z06.
3. Bigger Wheel=More unsprung Weight- True in some cases, but if you buy the right wheels, the weight difference is minimal, and in some cases you can even loose weight with an aftermarket setup. The less expensive 1 piece cast wheels are usually heavier, but a pricier custom wheel like a Fikse, CCW, or HRE is not only light, but far stronger than the factory wheels. I went with CCW modular wheels, and the weight difference was less than 2 pounds up front.
4. Cosmetics- My opinion is the complete opposite of yours. The factory 17 inch tires have huge sidewalls that give them the illusion of being taller than the rears. Going with 18's all around made the fronts more proportioned to the rears, and the car looks much better now.

By not keeping the stock tire size ratio the same, I would think you would throw off the active handling system since it depends on the wheel speed sensors. It won't get the true input when the system is activated due to different wheel/tire sizes..
