Default C5 Z06 prices should stay strong

Now that it's confirmed that the C6 Z06 will be $65K base (real world avg Z06 will be about $67,500) I think the C5 Z06 prices will remain very strong. I was somewhat intrigued that GM might price it around $58K base - and that might make people jump to the C6 Z.

Given that a typically optioned Z06 is going to run at least $70K with tax (in most states), I think the C5 Z is going to continue to command strong prices.

Obviously none of our cars are "investments" - or at least not for another 20 years or so - but it's nice to know that our values should hold pretty strong for a while.

As a side note, I think the $65K is a reasonable price for the new Z, given its "conquer the world" specs.

$65k is an absolute bargain considering it will kick the butts of porsche 911 turbos and vipers. Hell, and most ferraris.
Then again, even C5 Z06 could take on most ferraris.

The 65 base was about $4K less than my guess, and I think it's one heck of a deal for that. But when I think about giving up my Z and another $35,000 my enthusiasm wanes. I may wait for a two year old 07 model and trade then. It amazes me how many low mileage Z06's there are out there.

GM made a great decision to price the C6 Z06 in an area where it's "affordable". Unfortunately there will be many dealers who will grab as many Z06's as they can and add ridiculous add-on markups. It won't be long before we hear horror stories about additional $25K or more markups. The sad part is that some people will pay those prices.

I sort of disagree with earlier Z06's going to hold their value. The very fact that GM put a reasonable price on the C6 makes the car available to many and there will be a lot of people selling or trading in earlier Z06's. In effect, that will flood the used Z06 market and it will become (for awhile) a buyer's market. When the C5 came out, the C4 values dropped. C5 prices are going down now that the C6 is on the market. The same thing will happen to the Z06 especially given that GM is apparently not going to limit production of them.

That's a great price for the new Z considering what it offers. I doubt the C5 Z will have any trouble holding it's value as it offers alot as well. Especially when there's alot of people like me who can't necessarily afford even a C5 Z06 but buy them anyway after a test drive!
It's a good thing my wife's cool and understanding!

We'll have to agree to disagree. What I'm saying is that $65-70K is a big step up from $52 for the C5Z06 (2004 model). Granted there's more HP, but that's abig jump in $$. Although some serious power seekers or guys needing the newest thing will jump ship from a past generation Z06, but so far, popular consensus is that most C5 owners are content with theirs given the price differential. And I'm not even getting into the negative view that many people have on the c6 styling.

Personally, I see this price for the new C6 as a great thing for the C5. It will again bring lots of attention to the "Z06" name, and many will want one (and not want to fork over that dough). Next best thing - C5 Z06. Bang, demand goes up.

And you're incorrect - GM absolutely WILL limit production on the new Z06 - they'll limit it to as many cars as they can sell. At $70beans, I don't think they'll have to worry about it replacing the Impala as Chevy's best seller. Fact is, most people don't have that kind of disposable bread. Is it a good price for what it is? Absolutely. Do I think it will cause a mass C5Z06 exodus? Not a chance. I still say that the C5Z06 will go down in history as one of the best sports car bargains out there. (but then again, I'm kind of biased )

I agree, there will be a lot of used Z owners looking to move up.

Priced to high for a Chevy in my opinion. I paid $46k and change for 04 Z06...delivered and still in the factory plastic wrap. So for another $24k I get what...100 hp...maybe 1 sec faster 0 - 60. The rest of the stuff, frame, dry sump oil, hand built psuedo 427...thats all cool stuff for parking lot talk...but still only 100 hp more....no thanks GM

I just canceled my order..I was # 4 at my dealer.

Gee...how fast can I make my C5 Z06 with 24k ? Lots faster than the new Z....and I dont like hatch backs either so I will be happy with my 700+ RWHP that I will now build

Thanks to GM for the smokin deal on my C5 Z06 though....I can't wait to walk C6 Z06 I'll be like...man you better get that thing to the dealer for a compression check or something

No thanks for all those beans and a hatch as I prefer the look of the FRC.
Buy a first year production car rom the General!!!!!

I'll keep mine just the way it sits and walk on any new C6ZO6.

Both JerseyJay and CRWDDYZ are living proof of what I'm saying. Not that the new Z06 is overpriced in any way. It just pales in comparison to what we have in the last generation Z06's for the money. I personally don't see our's losing too much just for this reason. Am I "planning" on depreciation - of course, it's a car - but from what I'm seeing, we C5Z06 owners may be very pleasantly surprised with our residual values.

Guys, you better check your math. Add all the BS, destination, and various options, and you are closer to $75K.

It seems to me that the average price with the few options, will be in the $70,000 range.
But wait, there is more, if you order right now, you too can pay the extra $5000+ for dealer markup.
Such a bargain.
And if you are one of the first 1000 C6 Z06 owners, you can look foward to all the new, improved, mechanical problems on the first run.

So walk, don't run, to your dealship and cancel your pre-order today.

I'll stick with my FRC (do not like the hatchbacks) 04 Z06/Z16.

I agree BIG TIME 1000% and I also that the average cost of the new Z being around $70K will help our C5 Z06s stay strong in pricing, etc.!!!!!!!! Now MAN, although i LOVE MY C5 Z i have to admit, a mint (low mileage) black 07 C6 Z will be sitting in my garage in about 2 to 3 years (as i just can't pass up on that warrantied MEGACAR SUPERPERFORMANCE and technologoly!! WAY TO GO GM!!!

That will help shore up our prices plus make the C5 FRC style desireable compared with the c6Z06 greenhouse glass back.

I may just pop an LS7 in here and be done if it is reasonable.

i can understand where you're coming from. i paid around 42K for my 04z06. i will never exceed the performance potential of this car. now i'm probably looking at around $40K (out the door) delta if i trade my 04 for an 07, and that's if the dealer is not pulling the "market adjust" crap. 40 grand is a chunk of change. now if and when the hoopla dies down, gm offers some incentives, dealers start selling around invoice, etc., i may consider the new z06. granted this is one hell of a car for the $$$, but its just getting beyond the reach of my wallet. i prefer not to do the car payments thing for my toys. for $40 grand, i can park something really neat next to my 04z06.

i did - calculated mine at $69,995, and thats about $5K outside my wallet. i've always said, if that thing is much more than $65K MSRP (loaded), i'm out. on the other hand, if we have some GM incentives , dealers selling at around invoice , i'm probably back in! maybe when the dust settles, and the hoopla dies down...
