Z06 Insurance rate question
I'm beginning to think about a C5 for my next Vette and a Z06 is something I am considering but I'm curious about insurance rates.
Who has seen big differences in rates between a Z06 and a C5 coupe/vert of the same year? I know we all pay different premiums for insurance but how much more would coverage be on teh Z06?? Fortunately, I have no tickets or accidents on my record.
When I bought my 92 about 8 years ago, I called my insurance company (USAA) to ask about C4 rates and the first question they asked was if I was getting a ZR-1 I told them no, and they guy seemed pretty relieved but I found out a couple years later, the difference in the rate was only about $40/year.

I think it between 150 to 200 dollars more a year than a regualar C5. I check alot of insurance company, and Mercury Insurance was the cheapest, you can get a quote online.

BTW-the price difference is minimal compared to the HUGE performance gain.

I am 33, have USAA, and have plenty of speeding tickets. When I called about insuring my Z06 versus my 93 Coupe (LT1), the price of the insurance went up around $20 for the 6 months. Get the Z06! The insurance difference is next to nothing. In fact, the person I spoke to when getting the insurance was more relieved that I wasn't getting a convertible. Go figure!

I have State Farm and there was no rate difference. State Farm just lowered all their rates so I am down below $300 a half year for the first time in a couple of years.

When I got the insurance for my Z06 their computer only showed options for the vert or coupe. I got the coupe rate. I even took my car to in and showed them it. I did my part.

Thanks for all the input guys!! I just figured there would be a higher premium attached to insuring a Z06 and if they decoded a VIN, they would know what car it was.
Having been with USAA for 26 years, I will be staying with them and I guess if they don't ask too many questions, I shouldn't have a problem especially with no tickets or claims in that 26 years!

I don't think there is a higher cost for repair or parts on a Z06 vers a coupe or vert. I think the only time the premiums would be higher for a Z06 is if the owner/driver is a youngster in a more populated city.

I'm probably the wrong person for this question. I went from a 1986 Toyota econo-box to a brand new 2001 Z06. My insurance went down $15.00 per month. I don't claim to understand it.

The great thing about owning a Corvette is insurance prices...The average Corvette driver (according to insurance companies) is around 50 years of age and drives the car under 8000 miles yearly. Theft rates are somewhat low from my understanding, which allows enthusiasts to really take advantage of this price break

I got rid of a 1996 Grandsport Coupe and replaced it with a 2002 Z06, I want to say my rate went up about $10-$20 for 6 months, now I pay right around $370 for 6 months, Im 29 and have a clean driving record but I do recieve a discount (dont know how much) since I have my Daily driver, motorcycle and homeowners insurance with the same company.
