Probably. WD40 isn't really a lubricant. It's a water displacement medium. It's great for dissolving crud in places where lubrication is needed, but after spraying with WD40 and drying, THEN you apply the lubricant.

Spray white lithium grease on it. While you're at it, spray your door & hood hinges and latches...

thats because WD40 is pentrating oil, not a lubricant. Its great for breaking free rusty bolts and makes a good drill lub and even removes decals but it isnt a long term lube.
Get a aresol can of white litium, it will last a long time and it sticks to what you spray it on and it wont run.

BTW, never use WD40 on guns!! it has a little bit of varnish and tolene in it that will eat blueing and parkerizing over time, not to mention what it does to wood (soaks in and will soften it over time)

My problem was a mis-aligned kicker in the latch mechanism :

Before :

After :

The kicker is just a spring that pops the deck lid up. Simply bending the kicker back into place causes the trunk to pop up almost an inch now.

This might be my problem, I tried the white lithium grease, it still doesn't pop up very far. How do you bend that kicker? do you have to take it apart? or just bend it in there with vise grips? Thanks.

I used WD40

From your description, my '01 works exactly the same. Mine has been that way since new. Although the stops on either side of the trunk can be adjusted to give a little more tension, the trunk still doesn't pop open more than a tiny bit.

My secret is to release the trunk, then open and shut one of the doors. The air pressure pushes the trunk lid up enough to make it easy to completely open.

Dave, not only was your secret was exposed in post #8 but you need a confidence boost. You are after all a proper noun... Dave. We need to get you some Anthony Robbins CDs.

I'm just giving you a hard time. I do like your matching 'Vette's. His & Hers, that's pretty cool.

I had the same problem of having to use air pressure from closing the door to get my Z06 trunk to pop open high enough to be able to lift it. I tried the white lithium grease method and it worked perfectly. It went from barely lifting to lifting almost an inch high.
