Default LG G5X3 cam

Im doing a little bit of reading to get ready when I pull the trigger on a cam. I want a big cam but not going to replace the heads. I dont want to lose the ability to drive the car on like a 1hr or 2hr drive. Would this be to large of a cam? Where cam I read up some more on all the specs and what all the numbers mean exactly.

got to the z06 forum and you will be able to search more details then you care to read.

Bottom line is it makes 42-430rwhp like clockwork and has a mean but dealable idle.

It depends on what kind of driving you'll be doing. The car won't drive much different cruising on the highway, but it'll be a handful in heavy traffic.

I have an 03 z06 and was wondering if anyone knows of a good tuner in the NC area. I live in Charlotte and am looking into putting a new cam in. The G5x3 looks promising and I hear many good things about it, but I don't know if I can't find a good tuner within a few hours from here.

I heard that cam can make up to 70 additional horsepower but i guess its up to the tuner on that end.

It'll be fine on the highway with the 3.42s. To get better drivability down low go with 3.90s or 4.10s.

I've tuned a bunch of LSX's with that cam and the very slightly smaller G5X2 cam. If you're worried about some "in traffic" driving, consider the G5X2 cam instead. The trade off is, maybe, 10-15 peak Hp, but it's much tamer on the lower RPM end....Make sure you purchase the whole cam kit (~$1200). You'll need the springs, rods and retainers to make stock heads work with either choice.

Oh, and I wish you were closer to Chicago so I could tune yours! lol

Back in the day...I had an 02 Black / Mod Red Z and drooled over Godspeeds's Cam only X3 Posts...

Later I picked up an 04 GTO...and the fun began.

Going with the Cam - Only theme...

G5X3 on 114
921 Springs
SW Headers
RT Cats
Stock 243 Castings - Non Ported
Tuned with Lou G's input

The cam was rowdy with quite a bit of reversion...but pulls like a train.

If left to idle for a long time, the 02s would make it rich.

Otherwise, the car would idle down the Dallas North Tollway at rush hour without a hiccup.

Keep in mind, it will not run when you first install.

After 3 weeks of daily driving with HP tuners on board and 1 hr on LGs dyno...

Here you go

http://www.horist.com/hptuner/

Search 04 Pontiac GTO and scroll down til you see LG G5x3. Your tune is done. Pick up the cam!!

That doesn't help him decide if this cam is good for his needs....and it's very cryptic. Besides you really should have had the right length pushrods in there for correct rocker angle. I can't believe Lou didn't stress that to you. That's why these cams are kitted in the first place.

So I have a few questions:

Why didn't you just use a better link instead of making us search?

Why do you think your GTO tune will be compatible with his Vette?

What's to say this is a correct tune?

The point is not that it can or cannot be tuned. Is it right for his needs.

THE LGM G5X3 cam on a 114 lsa is the perfect performance cam that is still very streetable for stock headed LS6 and LS1 cars for that matter. Just get the complete CAM kit from LGM as suggested by Mr. Cowl Hood and make sure that a professional who knows what he's doing both installs and tunes your car (on a dyno) and you will be a happy camper!

I'VE SEEN POSTS ABOUT CAROLINA AUTO MASTERS IN DURHAM, NC.
IF YOU TRY THEM, LET ME KNOW HOW YOU LIKE THEM. I'M THINKING ABOUT THE SAME SETUP ON MY 2003 Z.

BY THE WAY, I'M IN MOORESVILLE, NC

I just recently purchases the MS3 from TSP (237/242 .603/.609 on a 113lsa). One of the major reasons i chose this over the G5X3 is that with this cam i actually know the specs. LG is to cams like Roswell is to aliens.

You'll def. get good results from that cam. I got 460+rwhp using that cam and a set of budget heads with all bolt-ons but no 90/90.

I have an 04 Z with the G5x3 and it is my daily drive. I use to have 4.10 gears in the car and it was perfect. But I broke those gears at the track last nov. now I am back with the 3.42's. I can say that around town the 4.10's took all of the cam surge out and was very easy to drive around town. With the 3.42's its a little different. I drive in traffice about 45 mins each way. You just need to make sure your RPM's are above 1500 and you will be find. My best 1/4 time was 11.5 @ 124 mph with a 1.72 60'. I know I could have gotten more but after the last rearend brake no more hard launches for me.
