Default 02-04 LS6 cam with 112 Lobe Separation

I read an article recently (Hot Rod Mag 4/05) about modding the LS2. In this article, an 02-04 LS6 cam ground with a lobe separation reduced from the stock 117.5 to 112 (I/E duration and lift were identical to the standard LS6 cam) was dyno tested in an otherwise stock LS2. This cam produced very significant power gains at the flywheel over the LS6 cam in the LS2, i.e., 39 peak hp, 29 avg hp from 2000-6400rpm, 50 peak tq, and 36 avg tq from 2000-6400 rpm. The 01 LS6 cam (used as OE in the LS2) produce similar results (slightly less power due to less lift and duration of the 01 cam) with a similar reduced lobe separation. According to the article, the only downside to these cams may be that they have increased emissions. Otherwise, the engine operates like a stocker.

Has anybody tried a cam like this in their C5Z?

I read that article too I have a Comp 228/230 112 lsa cam. (XR281HR) Torque peaks at approx. 4800rpm and all the power is made from 5000rpm to 7000rpm. I'm happy with it.

What would it cost to grind our stock cams ... or buy one already ground and send ours in as exchange ?

Nope, just waiting for my final dyno numbers. I believe it is a 11 sec. car though. It made over 440rwhp @ 5000rpm on the stock clutch burning and filling the shop with smoke lol! I now have a broken in SPEC stage 3 + that has a really sweet engagement, very smooth. The clutch pedal is a little stiffer and has taken some time to get used to. I just need to redyno it. I'll be running it up at Epping N.H. pretty soon though. Hopefully they will throw me out for no roll bar

Sorry Bernrex, you can't grind a new LSA (lobe seperation angle) into a cam. Its produced when the cam is initially ground and can't be changed.

I have a SLP (made by comp cams) .236/.236 .590/.590 112LSA in my '02 Z06. I love it, especially the idle. It is that rock the antenna back and forth kinda lope.

I noticed that too lol! Also just turn on the AC and it gets much worst, sort of a whipping action
