C5 Z06's are not made for 3 1/2 road trips!!!! I had two suitcases which fit in the car empty, perfectly but they wouldn't fit when full, so we had to make some fast changes. The ledge that separates the trunk from the cabin was the culpret. The ride and power are great however.

Hopefully my new Z06 will eliminate the problem with the hatchback. We are spending a warm night in Buffalo, NY after going to Niagara Falls for the boat ride. Our main destination is a week on Prince Edward Island, and then back thru Canada stopping in Quebec City, Montreal, Ottawa, and then maybe to Detroit to pick up my 2007 Z!

There aren't any gasoline bargins in Canada about $4 a gallon.

I just did a 5 hr trip each way to Watkins Glen, with a suitcase in the front seat, tools, coolant,oil, large folding chair, and cooler(filled the wheel well)in the trunk. I thought it was amazing that i could fit as much crap as I did in the car, race for two days, and drive back home 5 hrs in relative comfort. Long live the Z06.

Whenever I take mine to the track... I make sure I am confortable...



Seriously though.. I drive my car alot, but back and forth to the track... I take no chances... I am drag racing though. I would be a long push back with broken parts...

I drive mine all over... it holds tons and tons. I finally got a tire trailer to yank my tires and tools w/ the car.

When I moved from Iowa to California. Seriously I drove my car 4,000 miles. I started in Iowa, drove down to Texas (family). Then up to Colorado (golf and... oh yeah family). Then over to Vegas (I don't think I dipped below 100 the whole way through Utah and Nevada). Down to San Diego (golf golf golf), and finally up to San Francisco where I now live.

I had a suitcase, golf clubs, a computer and various other little things wedged into that car and my god it was the most fun I've ever had on a road trip.

I just drove 7 hours down to Bowling Green and back for Z06 fest two weeks ago and was amazed at how much stuff I was able to pack in the Z. For a sports car, I think the C5 Z06 has a lot of cargo space.

i just took my girlfriend and my 02 z06 on a week long vacation. i drove 7 hours both ways and the car was flawless. it held 2 large suit cases, 2 suit bags and 2 medium soft sided bags. i found it to very comfortable for that distance. it held everything perfectly. milage was great even with the 3.90 gears. gotta love this car!

Drove from Dallas to Vancouver BC, had more than enough room for everything I needed and had no complaints even on the Denver to Boise leg, (about 900 miles)

I drove from Denver -> Fl -> Denver -> FL -> Denver -> FL last year in my Z06. Might take a trip from FL to Texas this summer. Wonder how I got 55,000 miles in 5 years on my Z06? Road trips Lots of em.

I had too laugh at some of the responses to this thread. I also own an 1966 Austin Healey 3000 in addition to the 04 - ZO6. I have had the Healey since 1967. I bought it when I was in the USAF in Spain. My new wife (still together) and I took a vacation in 1968 from Madrid to Barcelona (F1 Races) then all the way down the coast to Seville.

We packed all of our stuff in the Healey including Tent, Ice Chest, 2 Sleeping bags, Air mattresses, Food, Stove, Lantern and at least a few clothes. (Did have to leave the spare tire at home - shades of the ZO6!) Looking at the ZO6 trunk, I think I can stuff lots more stuff in there. It is like a cavern compared to the Healey!!

No road trips yet, but we have one planned.

My wife and I have traveled several times in the Z and have gotten an amazing amount of luggage in the trunk, including two large hardside Samsonite cases with wheels and some tote bags, and still had room to spare with nothing up front in the passenger area. It's an awesome traveling vehicle with amazing mpg's to boot.

I am finding the Z good to drive on road trips, and have not had cargo issues, though I know where the OP is coming from with the suitcases thing. Hatchbacks would hold more, but I've got a C5, so I'll just have to muddle through
The extra cargo helps mute the road noise a bit too, like having a partition in place.

Trying putting that much stuff in an "exotic" car. OR, something cheap with similar performance, like a Japanese motorcycle.

The luggage didn't fit as planned but we did bring everything we wanted and the trip has been great and the car performance has also been excellent despite 104 degree heat in Mass. We have been on the road for 27 hours (during the last 5 days) and are spending the night in St. John, New Brunswick, heading to Prince Edward Island tomorrow for a week's stay.

What I take to shows every weekend:

a 10' X 10' pop up canopy
2 large folding Corvette chairs
a box with all my cleaning needs
a cooler
another box with a model of my car and a turntable
my display sign
my inflator
a black bag with Meguiars products in it.
And yes, it all fits in the Vette.

I'd say there's tons of space. And for Carlisle, it will be all of the above plus luggage.

Years ago, I had a 911 and the luggage space was a joke compared to the Z06. Only small cases would fit up front and anything else had to go in the "back seat" area.

When I got to my current unit at Ft. Campbell KY a number of years ago, I went to get my equipment issue. It included full desert issue, cold weather gear, all of my flight gear, ect., ect. 4 duffel bags full!!! Way more gear than I have ever had in my 11 years.

The Guy in charge (a CW4) said "I hope no body has a Corvette cause this is a ton of S!!t."

I said "I have a Z06 and trust me it'll fit. You could fit 3 dead hookers in the trunk if you wanted to."

He bet me a six pack of beer it wouldn't.

That Fosters went down pretty smooth that night.

Congrats on the upcoming new Z06.

I have to disagree with you about the Z06's road manners.

I have driven mine from Central Illinois to Miami with a weeks worth of clothes and accessories for my wife (in other words - almost everything from our house ) with no trouble at all.

I have also taken it to Bowling Green three times, Effingham three times, and Dallas.

Never had any issue.

Of course, I did not take huge "airline" style luggage- perhaps your packing arrangements were the culprit.

At least you are out enjoying it!

This car is a real trooper, and the luggage is adequate.
Driving on PEI and coming across HY 108 in New Brunswick was brutal on ths suspension, but it handled it great. The car is approaching 45,000 miles and has never had any problem.

This week we are heading to Quebec City and Montreal where the roads won't be so rough.

I too am amazed with the trunk after hauling a 16 ft ladder home in mine (kind of in kind of out).
