Went for a test drive in a 2001 Z06...what a blast. Recently sold my Testarossa and will let you know how the new 2002 Z06 compares. New 2002 black/black Z06 to arrive this coming Monday. More to come.

The TR is one of my all-time favorite designs - I never had the opportunity to drive one, but I'm sure you'll find the Z to be awesome bang for the buck, as well as a car that can serve as a daily driver without spending a fortune on maintenance.... Enjoy!

TRs are wonderful, but kinda heavy. Plus you won't have to have an escort vehicle with a "wide load" sign when you drive the Z06. ;)

The TR was an excellent supercar for the late 80's and early 90's. The original TR weighed in at 3600 lbs, by the first rev it was down to 3400 lbs and the final TRs with the fixed (non-popup) headlights weighted in at 3100 lbs and had another 40 HP to boot. When you open up the bonnet and look at the engine packaging job, you see the engine (duh) and lots of space for air to flow around and cool stuff. A lot different than the engine bay in a C5.
The main problem was that the engine sat above the transmission, causing the center of gravity to be excessivly high (for a mid-engined sports car) about the same as a modern C5 CG. The F348 and F355 both had significantly lower centers of gravity.

The Z is an awesome machine, especially cost considered. However it is no FERRARI. I currently own an 02 Z and love it. Have owned a FERRARI 308 GTSi, driven a TR and have been a passenger in several other FERRARI's including a F40. I have also been to the FERRARI factory in Modena, Italy.
The fit and finish on a FERRARI is unbelievable. Every aspect of it is art. The interior appointments and quality are perfect. The cars handle incredibly well "without active suspension". Park just about any other car near a FERRARI and people will walk over the other car to take a closer look at the FERRARI. If a Vette will turn a head, then a FERRARI will cause the same head to turn all the way around.
The Z will perform with the best of the world's cars at a fraction of the cost, but it is no FERRARI. As I recall, my 1980 308 cost more than my 02 Z06. So the fit and finish certainly should be superior. My recall is that a TR was around $125K MSRP just before Enzo died, then the market took them way up.
Enjoy the Z, it's awesome! You will be pleased, but you will also be slightly disappointed. The $ savings will ease your pain.

I'm sure the quality is there but at track events they show me nothing compared to my low budget C5

Whoa, I've got a TON of pics from the last Ferrari Challenge at Homestead... lucky enough to be allowed in there for the day before at the pits.
No TR's there to be sure, but I was about 20 feet away from the LeMans 512's at the pits... now there is an insane machine! As much as I enjoyed my buddys 355 and 360 F1's, those two LeMans EB 512's where a sight to behold (and listen to!).
I drove me NSX there, which seemed puny. Having my monster 02' Z06 today, I'd still feel way puny in those pits.
Oh well, life could be worse! ;)

Don't be shy about getting together with some of us from the Sandhills and Raleigh areas - we've been known to have a great time.
Look forward to hearing how you like the Z. :flag

newme.....Yes it was pretty cool being there around all those Ferrari's but they were still checking out my Z06 knowing they all have nothing on me.I tried to ask them to let me take some laps in the Z but they said no.I will tell you something some of Ferrari's had the sweetest sounds coming from them especially those Ferrari challenge cars....they were loud as crap..My buddy found out at the toll booth on the way home NOT to mess with the Z.

Also FWIW, my friend bought it for $50K used, in 87'.
With Ferrari, you pay for "looks" mostly.
Is there any ferrari out there besides a F40/F50 that can out perform an 02' Z06 in any catagory?
